Mutable Instruments Peaks

Peaks has 4 different functions to choose from,Envelopes, trig-reset LFOs, trig-synced LFOs (TAP), drumsis packed into 8HP.Each function has in common that it receives a trigger signal and produces an audio or CV signal.Triggering is also possible with a button push.

There are three modes to control Peaks, toggled with the SPLIT button. To switch to Expert mode, press and hold the SPLIT button.

• Twin: Channels 1 and 2 share the parameters of Knobs 1-4, but the Triggers are separate.
• Split: Channel 1 is controlled by knobs 1 and 2, channel 2 by knobs 3 and 4.
• Expert: Channels 1 and 2 are controlled completely independently of parameters and triggers.

The details and controls for the four functions are as follows.

• Envelopes that respond to triggers:
  0.2ms to 8s, attack is 4th order, decay and release are EXP (exponential) curves. AD type or ADSR type depends on the control mode.
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob simultaneously specifies CH1/2 Attack/Decay/Sustain/Release.
  • In Split mode, each knob specifies CH1 Attack/Decay and CH2 Attack/Decay respectively.
• LFO reset on trigger:
  0.03Hz to 160Hz in square, triangle, sine, step and random shapes
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob specifies the waveform position (phase) in CH1/2 Frequency/waveform/waveform morphing/reset.
  • In Split mode, each knob will specify Ch. 1 Frequency/Waveform and Ch. 2 Frequency/Waveform in turn.
• An LFO that clocks the trigger and syncs it to it:
  0.03Hz to 160Hz in square, triangle, sine, step and random shapes
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob specifies the waveform position (phase) in CH1/2 Amplitude/Waveform/Waveform Morphing/Reset.
  • In Split mode, each knob in turn specifies Ch. 1 waveform/waveform morphing and Ch. 2 Frequency/waveform.
• Drums that respond to triggers:
  CH1 gives a kick and sets Tune and Punch, and CH2 gives a snare and can set Tune and Decay.
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob in turn specifies the base frequency of CH1/2/Punch for BD, Tone for SD/Tone for BD, Snappy for SD/Decay.
  • In Split mode, each knob will set CH1 Tone/Decay/CH2 Tone/Decay in turn. 

By pressing and holding the Function button, Peaks will change the 4 functions of Peaks into the following 4 completely different functions.The controls for each feature look like this:

• Mini step sequencer:
  • 4 steps in Twin/Expert mode
  • 2 steps in Split mode
• Trigger delay/shaper:
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob specifies pre-delay/gate length/delay/repeat count for CH1/2.
  • In Split mode, each knob in turn specifies the number of delays/repeats for Ch.1 and the number of delays/repeats for Ch.2.
• Trigger stream randomizer:
  • When in Twin/Expert mode, each knob indicates the probability of the trigger process occurring/probability of trigger occurring after delay/Delay Time/Jitter
  • When in Split mode, each knob in turn is Ch. 1 Chance/Delay, Ch. 2 Chance/Delay
• Digital drum synth:
  • In Twin/Expert mode, each knob in turn specifies the CH1/2 base frequency/FM intensity (FM index)/FM, AM decay time/noise or distortion.
  • When in Split mode, each knob is in turn BD Preset Morphing/BD Preset Variation/SD Preset Morphing/SD Preset Variation
