MUSICAL FEATURES

Clouds is a granular processor with a twist.Unlike so-called granular samplers, Clouds focuses on real-time audio processing and texture extraction.

There are controls such as the grain position (POSITION), size (SIZE), and pitch (PITCH), and you can layer multiple grains (minimum 40) at the same time to create a thick texture. It is possible to control. An external trigger input allows the grain to be synced with an LFO or similar.

For a wide range of timbres, Clouds can vary the shape of the grain's envelope, from sharp square envelopes to smooth bell-like curves.Diffusion can also be used to further smooth out grain edges for a blurry texture.

There is also a separate "Grain Mesh" mode that automatically adjusts grain density, size, etc., to pitch-shift and time-stretch in an old-school sampler-like fashion.

Clouds offers 4 mix settings so you don't need another module to take advantage of your granular synth.

  • dry/wet
  • Strength to shake bread randomly
  • feedback amount
  • reverb amount

One of these four can be voltage controlled by setting.Clouds has a maximum delay time of 1 to 8 seconds, depending on the quality setting.

HOW TO USE

Jacks & Knobs

Freeze button

If you press the FREEZE button, the audio buffer will not be updated and will continue to process the current memory data for several seconds.

Indicator LEDs

The LED is a VU meter of the input level. Also, since the input is disabled during Freeze, it becomes an output level meter. If it lights up to the last LED, it will clip softly.

It is also used to display the status of each setting, with red indicating the quality setting, green indicating the function assigned to the BLEND knob, and multi-color indicating the value of the Blend parameter.

Blend Parameter/Audio Quality Button

A button that selects the parameter controlled by the BLEND knob and CV.You can also choose from four audio quality options.

Load & Save Button

You can save and load up to 4 types of frozen audio. Please see below for details.

Position/Size/Pitch Knobs

On the left is the Position knob that determines where the grain will play in the audio buffer.Rotate clockwise to move the playback position further into the past. The middle knob is the Size knob that determines the grain size, and the right knob is the Pitch knob that determines the grain pitch. These two knobs return to the original frequency at the middle position.

In Gain/Density/Texture/Blend Knobs

Left is an input gain knob that varies from -18dB to 6dB.

The second from the left is the DENSITY knob.No grain occurs in the middle position.Rotate to the right to spawn grains at random times, and rotate to the left to spawn grains at regular intervals. The larger the left or right turn, the greater the overlap between the note durations of the grains.

The third knob from the left is the TEXTURE knob, which allows you to set and morph envelope curves with various grains. After the 3 o'clock position, you can get a diffuser effect that weakens the attack part of the sound.

Blend Knobs

The Blend knob controls the Blend parameter assigned a function by pressing the button to the right of the LED.Assignable functions are

  • dry/wet balance
  • stereo spread
  • feedback amount
  • amount of reverb
are four.Due to the nature of the multifunction knob, immediately after switching the assigned parameter,Knob position does not match parameter value. If you turn the knob at this time, the parameter changes according to the distance from the original knob position.
Freeze & Trigger Input

A gate signal input for freezing voltage and an input jack for a trigger signal that generates a single grain. By setting the DENSITY to 1 (middle) and inputting the trigger signal here and pronouncing it, the Cloudsmicro sample playerIt will be.

Signal Input

Stereo input to Clouds.

Position/Size/Density/Texture CV inputs

CV input for each parameter.

1V/oct input

This is a CV input that changes the grain pitch by 1V/octave.

Blend input

This is an input that performs Blend control with CV.

Signal Out

Clouds stereo output.

About Granular Synth

Clouds continuously records incoming audio into small samples. The recording time can reach up to 8 seconds with lower audio quality. Clouds creates sonic textures, also known as "grains", by layering and playing back short snippets of recorded audio.

With Clouds you can control:
  • From which part of the recording buffer the grains are taken
  • grain length
  • Grain playback speed and pitch
  • Density between grains
  • Whether the timing of grain pronunciation is constant or random
  • Which envelope curve is applied to the grain

Clouds will continuously play grains at a rate determined by the DENSITY and SIZE settings. There's also a trigger input that lets you specify when the module should start playing new grains. The maximum number of grains that can be played simultaneously is 40 to 60, which is very high, so even very basic waveforms can produce ever-changing textures, much more than going back and forth between SD card samples and continuing to play them. depth to the sound.

the audio buffer to extract the grain fromFreezeYou can also.Any audio input at this time will not be recorded. In some ways Clouds works the opposite of a sampler, constantly sampling incoming audio unless it freezes.

Audio quality settings

Press and hold the Blend parameter/Audio quality button for about 1 second, then press the button continuously to select the recording quality. The setting is indicated by the position of the red LED, from the left position

- 32 kHz sample rate/16 bit depth/stereo/1 second buffer
- 32 kHz sample rate/16 bit depth/mono/2 second buffer
- 16 kHz sample rate/8 bit depth/stereo/4 second buffer
- 16 kHz sample rate/8 bit depth/mono/8 second buffer

Save and load

Up to four frozen audio buffers can be saved and loaded.

To save
- Press and hold the Load/Save button for 1 second, then press the Blend parameter/Audio button to switch between the 4 memory slots.
- The currently selected slot is indicated by a blinking red LED.
- Press the Load/Save button again after deciding the slot.

To load
- Press the Load/Save button and press the Blend parameter/Audio button to switch between the 4 memory slots.
- Selected slot is indicated by a blinking green LED.
- Press the Load/Save button again after deciding the slot.
If you accidentally press the Load/Save button, it will return to its original state if you do nothing.
