The Joranalogue Delay 1 is a fully analog BBD-based delay module with a host of features tailored for modern musical use.Analog circuits are known for their high responsiveness to the latency problems of digital audio processors. The BBD (Bucket Brigate Delay) line is an effective circuit for intentionally delaying a signal without using tape or digital memory. This circuit delays the incoming signal by letting a series of capacitors pass the signal at high speed.
Delay 1 implements a temperature-guaranteed, high-frequency VCO that provides the "clock" signal necessary to drive the delay line within 1 ms to 50 ms.By increasing the drive frequency to 20kHz or higher, it solves the traditional "BBD clock roar" problem and at the same time provides a wide range of delay times. Easily create classic chorus, flanger and echo effects with dry/wet blend, feedback and damping parameters.
To significantly reduce distortion and noise, Delay 1 implements a newly developed control circuit.A built-in compander maintains signal dynamics while increasing fidelity at various signal levels.
The module's "Split Phase" topology offers two different dry/wet mixes. They can be used to convert mono signals to stereo, and are useful for complementary comb filtering, etc.
Delay 1 also lets you experiment with 'Carplus Strong' synthesis, a technique for creating string- and percussion-like sounds. This is easily accomplished with an internal noise transient generator driven by the Pluck input and the 1V/Oct response of the clock VCO.
