MUSICAL FEATURES

Clock O'Pawn mk2 is a versatile clock device that acts as the conductor of a modular system. Its transport section allows you to start, stop, and reset instruments in sync with a clock, and can also sync with a MIDI clock.

If you find the metronome clock signal uninspiring, you can use various groove patterns and clock humanization features to guide your setup with distinctive shuffles and swings. To round out these rich features into a small yet powerful clock source, you'll find preset memories, select bus compatibility, and several convenient options to optimally configure your Clock O'Pawn. .

  • Clock source module provides 4 different outputs
  •  Transport section includes play, pause, stop, tap tempo, and manual reset operations
  • Able to output clocks with a variety of irregular grooves, from classic swing to experimental clock manipulation.
  • Humanize function adds randomness to clock timing
  • Accent output with 27 different patterns
  • Customizable with option settings
  • MIDI input for external synchronization with MIDI devices (type A/B switchable with jumper)
  • 16 preset memory function

How To Use

Clock O' Pawn (COP) outputs clocks, resets, and accents according to the incoming MIDI clock or an internal clock running at a set BPM. COP can also output a swinging or distorted clock, but these settings will be reflected in the signals from CLOCK and Accent ACC, and the 16th output will always output a 16-minute (4PPQ) clock with a constant tempo. The timing of the RESET output can be changed, such as when the clock starts or stops.

Transport controls are clear. Start and pause using the Play button. At the top right is the stop button. If you pause, it will not return to the start; it will return to the start only when you press the stop button. Press the Play button while holding Stop to perform a manual reset.

Detailed functions such as settings, saving and recalling are as follows.

Menu Pages

To switch between different menu pages, hold the left shift button and press either of the nudge buttons. The menu has two layers: the main menu page (menu LED is lit) and the options page (menu LED is flashing).

Groove and accent can be selected from various patterns. See the manual for a complete list of patterns.

  1. BPM: The first menu page allows you to set the BPM and select the clock source. Tempo is adjustable from 30 to 300BPM. If you select a tempo below 30 BPM, the display will show "Mid" and the tempo will be determined by the external clock source via the MIDI input.
  2. GRV (Groove): The second menu page allows you to select a groove pattern. The first number on the display represents the time signature and the last two numbers represent the groove type. Here is the list of available grooves:
  3. AMN (amount): The third menu page sets the amount of groove from 3 to 0%.
  4. ACC (Accent): The fourth menu page allows you to select an accent pattern for accent output. Note that the available accents depend on the time signature of the selected groove.
  5. HMN (humanized): The fifth menu page allows you to set randomness in the timing of the clock signal, ranging from 5 to 0%. This gives a more human feel at lower values, and a more experimental, ``drunk drummer'' feel at higher values.
  1. RST (reset): The first menu page within the second menu layer allows you to configure when the reset signal is generated from the reset output. By default, a reset signal is generated during playback if the module is stopped, but not if it is paused. But you can issue a reset on play and every x bars or on play, stop, and every x bars. Bar length is determined by the selected groove type.
  2. DLY: The second menu page within the second menu layer allows you to configure the clock signal to be delayed at the same time as the reset signal. This feature is to ensure consistent behavior between different sequencers upon reset. The delay can be adjusted from 2 to 2ms.
  3. 16th: The third menu page within the second menu layer allows you to customize the behavior of the 2th clock output. By configuration, this output can be configured to be unaffected by the stop command (oFF is displayed) or to respond to it (oN is displayed). This option is useful if you have clockable LFOs, synchronizable delays, etc. that need to continue receiving a clock signal even when the main clock is paused.
  4. TAP: The fourth menu page within the second menu layer allows you to customize tap tempo behavior. The display will show the number of taps needed to determine the BPM, from 2 to 4.
  5. SB: The fifth menu page within the second menu layer allows you to set the Select Bus option. Clock O'Pawn mk2 supports Select Bus protocol as a receiver. Select Bus transmitters like Harlequin's Context allow you to save or load presets. Receiving Select Bus messages can be enabled (“rEc” is displayed) or disabled (“oFF” is displayed). For more information about the Select Bus protocol, please check the support section of our website.

Other settings

MIDI Input settings
With the jumper on the back board, the 3.5mm TRS MIDI input can be compatible with either Type A/B. If the jumper is placed horizontally, it is Type A, and if it is placed vertically, it is Type B.

On/Off of transport function
Clock O'Pawn's transport section can be disabled if the module is clocked via MIDI. To access this option, press and hold the left shift button during startup, then press it again to disable or enable the transport section (the display will show On or Off). Press the Play button to exit this option and return to normal operation.

Factory reset
To reset to factory settings, press and hold the left nudge button during startup. When the display shows RST, press the Play button to confirm or press the Stop button to abort the reset process. While performing the reset, the display will show three flashing lines for approximately 20 seconds. A factory reset clears all memory slots and sets Select Bus and Transport section state options to factory defaults.
