MUSICAL FEATURES

Frap Tools SC is a single-channel stereo module from the CGM Eurorack Mixer series. While retaining the functions and CV input of the previous model's C module, this unit, which has become a stereo specification, is newly equipped with a QSC pan / crossfade function.Compatible with all other products in the series, this unit functions as stereo-stereo, mono-mono, mono-stereo, and stereo-mono with advanced input / output configurations.Gain control and two mono FX sends can be set to pre-fader or post-fader, and the panpot can also be used as a dual mono crossfader, so blend the two mono sources and summ them into a single mono. You can also. All parameters support voltage control for creative mixing automation. In addition, we will implement three buttons such as mute / PFL / Solo-in-Place, which are convenient for both studio and live performances.

HOW TO USE

SC signal routing is divided into five color-coded sections: VCA (red), two FX sends (yellow and green), pan (pink), fader (white) to match CGM quality standards. increase.

Amplitude control and direct output

The SC signal flow begins with two channel input jacks. The main VCA then defines the initial gain of the signals patched to them via the Level knob, and the Channel fader sets the level of the audio signal sent to the G module. That is, the VCA controls the amplitude of the incoming signal and the fader controls the amplitude of the output signal.By using these two controls together,Like a classical mixing console, you can define not only the amplitude of the signal in the mix, but also its timbre.Because the input VCA is greater than or equal to unity gainIt is possible to add very smooth saturation to the incoming signal, producing a kind of sound that is described as thicker / punchy / warm. This input level can also be controlled by voltage via the VCA Level CV input, which accepts 0-5V or 0-10V unipolar signals, and the Level knob acts as an attenuator if the CV is patched. increase.Reference technique video 1
The main VCA also has a mono or stereo direct output that can extract the incoming signal after it has been amplified (colored) by the VCA, and can be used for multitrack recording and parallel processing of the signal. The Pre / Post switch defines whether the direct output signal is affected by the fader settings. The upper position with the red dot is the Pre fader, and the lower position with the white dot is the Post fader. When set to the Pre fader, the signal output from the direct output will be the signal after passing through the main VCA regardless of the position of the Channel fader. In the Post fader settings, the amplitude of the output signal is also determined by the Channel fader, so it is the same as the signal in the final mix.The direct output on the left also functions as a monosum. If there is no patch on the right input, the sum of both channels is output.Patching the cable to the right output removes semi-normalization and the two outputs work in stereo. This allows the SC to provide flexible signal routing between inputs and outputs, including stereo, mono, mono-stereo, stereo-mono, and dual mono.

Stereo operation

The simplest use of SC is to patch the stereo signal to the left and right inputs. The signal is internally routed to the group. From the left and right direct outputs, you can retrieve a copy of the signal with either the Pre or Post fader.

Monaural operation

Use the SC as a classic monochannel by patching the monaural signal to either the left or right input. In this case, the direct output on the left behaves like the direct output of the C module, so the stereo position is ignored.

Mono-stereo operation

If you want to record a monaural source that moves from side to side and track its stereo position, connect the left and right direct outputs to your recording device. This was the first time CGM was able to do this, as the C module's panpot only affected the sound sent to the G module.

Stereo-mono operation

The direct output on the left outputs the monosum of both channels with patches on the left and right inputs.

Dual mono

The SC can be used as a dual mono mixer by using the Mono / Crossfade switch.

Effect send

The two Send Level knobs define the amplitude of the channel signal sent to the group's effect send mono output.Similar to the main VCA, these can also be voltage controlled by patching the corresponding CV input with a 2-0V or 5-0V unipolar signal. This input allows you to automate the effects of each channel individually, in a way that is not possible with a typical mixing console. Each of the two FX sends has a Pre / Post Fader switch. When set to the Post fader, which is below the white dot, the signal sent to the external effect is limited by the Channel fader position. This setting is useful if you want the Dry / Wet ratio of the signal to always be the same when adjusting the level of the channel. When set to the Pre fader, FX sends are defined only by knobs or CVs and are completely independent of the overall channel level. This way you can lower the Channel fader to get the effect of leaving only the processed signal in the mix. Another way to look at Pre / Post effect sends is that the former is an absolute level, while the latter is a relative level (in this case, relative to the main fader).

Bread

When the Pan / Crossfade switch is set to the down position, the knob acts as a stereo panorama control and defines the balance of the (mono or stereo) audio input across the left and right channels. Two CV inputs that accept positive and negative voltage (-5V to + 5V) provide external control for panning on the left and right channels. As the positive CV increases, the signal is distributed more to the right, and the negative CV moves the signal to the left.Since the pan is a bipolar control, the operation of the CV input is slightly different from that of the VCA or FX send.In this case, when the CV is patched, the knob operation shifts the incoming CV to the positive (right) or negative (left). That is, it acts as an offset rather than an attenuator.

cross fade

When the Pan / Crossfade switch is set to the top position, the knob acts as a "dual mono" crossfade that blends the two inputs with the patched signal, outputting the resulting signal to the left and right channels. This is, for exampleBrensoThis is useful for blending the sounds of the oscillator's two waveform outputs to create a punchy monaural baseline, or for mixing two elements of a drum pattern that do not need to be panned in a stereo image.Reference technique video1, 2

Direct output operation in crossfade mode

Even when using the SC in Crossfade mode, there is no change in the direct output semi-normalization mechanism. If you use the left output as a mono output, the left and right channels are added together and you can hear the crossfade. When the cable is patched to the right direct output, the two outputs will be stereo again and will function as if the channel was set to Pan mode. The signal sent to the group remains monaural.

Creative features

All channelsMutebutton,Solo in Place,Stereo PFLIt has three creative controls (pre-fader listening).

mute

You can close the main VCA by operating the Mute button. This is equivalent to squeezing the VCA Level knob all the way down to zero, so you can mute all channel outputs, including FX sends, with the push of a button.

Solo in Place

The Solo in Place button selects the channel that the group will keep active in Safe Solo mode.Reference technique video 1
