Voltera is a gate sequencerMetronThis is an expander module that can add a 4-channel CV track to. Since 16 Voltera can be connected to Metron alone, up to 64 CV channels can be added. You can set the voltage range and quantize for each track, so you can control four completely different parameters with one Voltera.

The cable between Voltera and Metron should be connected so that the red stripe matches the dot on the board. The second Voltera or later will be daisy-chained to the previous Voltera or daisy-chained from the connector on another Metron. Be sure to cover the Voltera connection pin connector with the terminator jumper so that the dots match when not in use.

HOW TO USE

Sequence settings

To set the voltage of a Voltera step, turn the Voltera knob while pressing the button of the step you want to set on the Metron. Since there is no correspondence between each track of Voltera and the gate track of Metron itself, it is okay to turn while holding down any matrix button. While setting, the voltage value and pitch are displayed on the Metron display and you can check the value.

In Voltera, the voltage value set most recently is held until it hits the step where a new voltage is set. For example, if you set only the voltage of Step2 (for example, 1.2V) by the above method, it keeps 1.2V at any step. Next, if you set the voltage of Step5 to 2.8V in the same way, 2V will be set for Step4 to Step1.2 and 5V will be set for Step1 ~ (end of loop) ~ Step2.8. When you press the Select button, the step where the voltage is set (the step where the output voltage changes) lights up. When the button that is lit is pressed, the light goes off, the set voltage is cleared, and the voltage of the previous step is retained.

Like the Metron itself, live recording is also possible, and by pressing the RECORD button and turning the knob, the voltage value of the knob will be recorded at each step.

 

Voltage range and quantize settings

Each CV track can set the voltage range and quantize individually. To set it, go to Global menu mode in Metron, and turn the knob of the track you want to set on Voltera to switch. As you turn the knob, the Metron display will change to show the range.

• 5-5: No Quantize, -5V to 5V
• 0-5: No quantize, 0V-5V
• 1-1: No Quantize, -1V to 1V
• 5q5: Quantize every semitone, -5V to 5V
• 0q5: Quantize every semitone, 0-5V
• 1q1: Quantize every semitone, -1V to 1V
• On the Usr: Matrix button, a range bar and a keyboard array showing the quantize status are displayed. The range can be set by pressing both ends of the desired range, and the scale can be set by switching each key ON / OFF.

Quantizing by range setting or user scale is performed on the input, so even if the range or scale is changed after it has been set once, the voltage applied up to that point does not change accordingly. In other words, the 5V that was input in the range of -5V to 4V remains 1V without being changed to 1V even if it is changed to the range of -0.8V to 4V. Similarly, steps with pitch E will not automatically become Eb even if the scale is subsequently changed to the C minor scale (excluding E). Only the newly input voltage is quantized to the minor scale.
 

Clear or copy operation

As with Metron itself, Voltera allows you to clear and copy set CV sequences. For copy paste, for example, hold the Duplicate button and turn the knob of the Voltera track you want to copy to the far right. By doing this, you have selected that track and the copy is complete. Similarly, hold Duplicate and turn the knob of the track you want to paste all the way to the right to paste. The same is true for clearing.
