Sport Modulator 2 is a patch programmable dual 'lag and hold' device. The SM2 is heavily inspired by the Serge SSG, but unlike the SSG, each channel can perform both "Step" and "Smooth" functions. The CUPL section has in common that it outputs a signal that combines two channels.
Sport Modulator 2 (and laterSM2) can each operate in one of two modes.

SmoothIn mode, the output follows the input as quickly as the Rate parameter allows. Sending a HIGH signal to the S(H) input freezes the output.
SteppedIn mode, the output takes new samples at the timing of a LOW to HIGH voltage transition on the S(H) input. SM2 will try to sample as much voltage on the input as the Rate parameter allows. Setting the Rate knob to maximum gives a typical sample-and-hold behavior. If the Rate parameter is set low, the output will only step within the parameter's tolerance.
