The Haible VC Resonator is an evolution of Jürgen Haible's Resonator inspired by the Resonator part of the Moog Polymoog. Each of the three filter bands has controls for frequency, signal gain, and enhancement (resonance).
In the Random*Source version, 3 band outputs can be taken out at the same time, and each frequency can be voltage controlled.The frequencies are also extended so that the three bands overlap, for example the LOW center frequency can be set higher than the MED frequency.
Jürgen said: "The Polymoog was an early polyphonic synthesizer with a three-band 'resonator' section that allowed for formant filtering in addition to the dynamic filter.A resonator like this is a very useful feature for analog synthesizers.”
Jürgen's original Resonator (similar to the Polymoog) had a switch to select one of three basic modes, and only one mode could be used at a time. Haible VC Resonator offers the same three modes as separate outputs, which can be used simultaneously for further processing such as crossfading.
The BAND output has a MODE switch (#5) that allows you to select whether the MED band is added or subtracted.This allows an additional bandpass "notch" mode to be selected.
