Repression is a versatile, CV controllable comparator.
Repression compares two signals: one is the Input , and the other is the Threshold Knob , a value defined by the Thrash CV that is added to it . The output consists of the following four signals based on the result of the calculation:
Above is the gate if the input is higher than the threshold.
Below is the gate if the input is lower than the threshold.
Equal outputs a trigger when the input value and the threshold value are equal.
Bipolar is a +/-5V version of the Above output, and is a useful output when using comparators for audio applications, such as PWM generators and complex oscillators.
The Threshold Knob range is +/-8.2V.
Fixed thresholdThis figure shows a constant threshold defined by the Threshold knob and a triangular signal going into Repression.
Repression changes the state of the output depending on the comparison of the input to the threshold voltage.
CV Controlled thresholdTo jitter a fixed threshold defined by the knob, patch an attenuated CV to the Thrsh CV input. This makes the threshold behave as if it wobbles around the knob's offset.
This is just one example of VC thresholds. Experiment with Thrsh CV using step sequences and more.
Comparing Two SignalsWith the Threshold knob set to the center position of 0V, the voltage into the Thrsh CV input is sent directly to the comparator's second input with no offset.
This method allows you to compare two signals.
