FX Boy is a multi-effects processor that utilizes game cartridges . Designed in collaboration with several manufacturers possessing superior development capabilities , each cartridge features a unique effects circuit. Audio is input and output analogously between the cartridge and the unit, and the effects within the cartridge can be either analog or digital. All controls can be controlled by voltage. In addition to the effects provided by the cartridges, it also features a 4-band EQ , and the routing of effects can be switched between Pre and Post for use at any time.
The following seven effect cartridges are available.
Trash is a harmonic distortion that combines the tastes of clipping and wave folding. Two modes, A and B, provide different intensity effects.
The Flanger cartridge from Feedback Modules features a classic flanger with LFO speed control and a delay with time control, both of which offer feedback control.
This cartridge features a classic West Coast synthesis circuit from Making Sound Machines , designed to add harmonious harmonics. It's ideal for adding rich harmonics to fundamental waveforms or creating pleasing distortion in complex signals like percussion sounds, and the circuit generates distinctive timbres similar to PWM and FM.
The AVMA by Tesseract Modular is a bipolar VCA featuring a switchable wavefolder stage followed by an analog frequency downsampler. With a gain of 2x, the VCA can perform ring modulation using a +/-5V oscillator signal at the CV input.
A cartridge by Instruo . It completely destroys the phase of the generated sound with a triple-cascaded all-pass filter, built-in LFO, and feedback path saturator.
Designed by Touell Skouarn , the Eskuara is a feedback fuzz/overdrive pedal excelling at creating noise and distortion. This experimental cartridge generates a wide range of distortion sounds and unique sonic textures through its ability to manipulate sustain and feedback.
FxGirl by XOR Electronics is a processing unit that provides delay and granular processing.
