MUSICAL FEATURES

The Boredbrain Music EQx5 is an effective 5-band stereo equalizer for Eurorack synthesizers. This unit, which can quickly and musically adjust the frequency component of an audio signal, implements CV control for all parameters for experimental equalizing processing.

  • Five frequency bands with ± 12 dB gain width
  • Post EQ balance and level control
  • Equipped with CV input for all parameters
  • Stereo input / output with separate signal paths
  • Equipped with Mono Sum output

    HOW TO USE

    Five Frequency Bands

This unit is equipped with a 12-band graphic EQ, each capable of a level boost / cut of ± 5 dB.The primary filter used in the equalizer has a slope of 1 dB / Oct from each center frequency.

    • HIGH ―― 10kHz shelf
    • HI-MID ―― 4kHz peak
    • MID ―― 1kHz peak
    • LO-MID --400HZ peak
    • LOW --100Hz shelf

Adjusting these bands applies subtle or dramatic changes to the frequency response of the source audio signal. These adjustments can be used in a variety of situations, such as attenuating problematic frequencies to emphasize others, or creating deliberate space in a mix to create a particular sound.

    Balance & Level

The Balance parameter is basically an equal power crossfader that acts on the gains of the left and right channels at the same time as well as on the opposite poles. If you patch the input of the module with a stereo signal, this parameter acts as a panning control, shifting the stereo image left or right.Patch the input of the module with two monaural signalsOUT L + RWhen using mono output, this parameter acts like a volume crossfader that doesn't feel a level drop at the center point. The LEVEL parameter is a post EQ volume adjustment and is mainly used to correct level changes after frequency equalization. EQx5 implements a pseudo-loudness function, and as LEVEL is lowered, the LOW and HIGH shelving filters are gradually boosted. This makes it possible to maintain the richness of the signal even when the signal is attenuated, and obtain an equal loudness curve.

    Complete Voltage Control

An important feature of EQx5 is that it implements CV inputs for all parameters, offering a wide range of experimental possibilities in a Eurorack environment. The amount of boost / cut applied in each band can also be modulated using a 10Vpp CV signal, in which case the gain knob in the frequency band acts as an attenuator. In addition, both the Balance and Level controls also have their own CV inputs (± 5V). The Level parameter works more or less like a VCA when used in combination with a CV.

    Input & Output

LR, The two inputs are designed for audio signals within the audible band. These inputs are AC-coupled and block DC signals to reduce noise.Input R is normalized to L, so a copy of L is entered if there is no patch. In addition to the two separate outputs L and R, the module provides the sum of the two channelsOUT L + RIt has a monaural output. As mentioned earlier, this output is useful if you want to crossfading between two signals using the Balance parameter, or if you want a quick mix of two audio signals.
