MidSide+ is an evolution of the company's popular LRMSMSLR module . MidSide+ adds a voltage-controlled Through-Zero Width control to the MS to LR decoder section, allowing control over the width of mid-side processing from super-wide stereo to mono and even negative-polarity stereo. Designed with ergonomics in mind, it provides ample spacing for comfortable parameter control and visual feedback of modulation via LEDs.
The MidSide+ MS to LR section features a combination of VCA and 4-quadrant multipliers for the Mid and Side signals, and a switchable 250Hz high-pass filter for the Side signal. These specially designed circuits allow you to control the width of the input signal from super-wide stereo, to normal stereo, to mono, to through zero, to inverted stereo, and finally to inverted super-wide stereo.
A superwide stereo signal is a signal in which the left and right channels are inverted in phase with each other. When played on headphones, or on speakers placed in a good acoustic space, a superwide stereo signal provides a sense of extraordinary spaciousness, rather than a sense of limited positioning in the stereo field. This is because the unit smoothly controls the stereo image from inverted superwide stereo to mono to superwide stereo, allowing you to precisely define and position the width and position of the stereo signal.
Not limited to only operating in the mono to super-wide stereo realm, MidSide+'s thru-zero capability can also invert the stereo image, placing the left channel on the right and vice versa, creating signals that are mirrored around the stereo axis.
