Warps is a compact and powerful processor module that takes in two audio signals (called carriers and modulators) and produces new audio signals with various cross modulations. • cross fade: Two input signals can be crossfade and output. The Timbre knob controls the mix balance.
• Cross folding: After the carrier and modulator are mixed, a small amount of cross modulation is added and output through the wave folder. The amount of wave folder applied is controlled by the Timbre knob.
• Analog modeling diode ring modulation: A signal that digitally emulates the effect of the analog circuit of ring modulation → diode clipping is output. Timbre controls the gain of the output signal and also controls the amount of timbre change due to diode clipping.
• Digital ring modulation: The ring modulation is milder than the diode ring modulation. It sounds similar to an AD633-based analog ring modulation. Timbre controls the output signal gain control and the amount of tone change due to soft clipping.
• XOR bit manipulation: Two input signals are converted into 2-bit numbers and XOR operation (exclusive OR) is performed.
• Compare operation: Tones are generated by comparison, such as replacing the minus part of the carrier signal with the modulator signal and outputting the signal with the smaller absolute value. The logic for these comparisons can be morphed by the Timber control.
• Vocoder: Performs digital emulation of a 20-band vocoder. The band-by-band gain change envelope of the carrier signal is applied to the modulator band-by-band gain change. Timber controls the strength of this application. All three mark ranges on the right side of the algorithm knob correspond to the vocoder. The more you turn it to the right, the longer the release time of the envelope will be, and if you turn it all the way to the right, the modulator signal will freeze.

DEMO

This is a demo using only the standard Doepfer A-110 oscillator as the external input oscillator (also using TV sound only in the latter half of the vocoder). It produces a very wide range of sounds.
