Poly Cinematic is a powerful synthesizer module featuring full 8-voice polyphony. Designed with ease of use in mind, it provides minimal controls to easily get rich pad sounds and crunchy reverb-soaked stabs. This eliminates the need to scroll through thousands of presets or patch 50 parameters. It has CV inputs for pitch, gate, filter, and chord selection, and can also be modulated by a wide range of MIDI CC parameters. The chord memory feature helps you get around Eurorack's polyphony limitations, and the MIDI TRS input lets you play it as a fully polyphonic synth.
The main features are:
These features allow for a huge variety of sounds and expressions.
To produce Poly Cinematic, send MIDI notes from the MIDI input or send a gate to the Trigger input. If you want to play a full 8-note polyphonic performance, use MIDI. When played at the gate, the most recent chord stored by the code memory function (described later) will be played.
The panel is divided into envelopes, filters, oscillators, and effects sections from the top, and although it is compact, many controls are possible with knobs. The oscillator has two switches to change the oscillator type and mode, giving you access to a wide variety of tones. The filter has access to 2 filter types including the expansion mode, and the envelope section has been devised to combine decay and sustain into one knob.
Various secondary functions can be accessed by holding down the Shift button.
Code Memory is Poly Cinematic's most powerful feature, bridging the missing link between Midi and CV/Gate. With factory settings, when you press Poly Cinematic's trigger button or send a gate signal, it plays a single note and continues until you release the button or the gate signal is turned off.
When you connect and play via Midi, the chord memory will continue to remember the last note/chord you played and will assign that note to the button unless the gate/trigger is pressed.
When connected to the 1V/Oct input with CV only, you can use a CV sequencer or keyboard to play chords, single notes, or 8-note octave stacks. This allows you to think of Poly Cinematic as a regular monophonic oscillator module, but with Midi-addressable chords.Connecting the CV to the chord selection input allows you to record chords in different memory slots, there are 8 slots in total. If you like the code memory you have programmed and want to use it even after the power is turned off, you can save it to memory by holding down Shift and Trigger.
To restore the unit to its original factory settings, press and hold the Shift key for 1 second while powering on. The trigger button will flash twice, chord memory will be reset to factory chords/notes, fine tune will be reset to concert pitch, and MIDI channels will be set to omni (all channels). All MIDI CC parameters will return to their default values.
The parameters that can be accessed with MIDI CC are:
Volume
Poly Cinematic's volume output can vary more than many other Eurorack oscillators. By default it is set to 78% of maximum volume, but this can be adjusted and saved to your preference. High settings can produce overdriven sounds with large numbers of voices and extreme resonant filter settings. To boost the volume, hold Shift and rotate the attack control.
Coarse/Fine tuning switching (Flip Coarse/Fine Tune)
Some users prefer fine tuning as the default tuning behavior and would like to be able to access coarse tuning by pressing Shift.
Pitch Bend Range
Use the pitch bend controller to adjust the amount by which the pitch changes up or down.
V/Oct Range
For advanced users/services. Adjusts the relationship between the V/Oct input voltage and the oscillator pitch.
V/Oct Offset
For advanced users/services. Adjusts the initial pitch when the V/Oct range begins.
ccDisable
Disable Midi CC control. We recommend using Midi 1:1 between devices, but use it when Midi CC from other devices in the network interferes with the module.
Note: Setting this will immediately save it as the default and only a factory reset will be required to restore Midi CC control
