MUSICAL FEATURES

The 4ms Stereo Triggered Sampler (STS) is a high quality sample recorder / playback module. With STS, it is possible to record two stereo files independently while recording them in another stereo file. From microSD cardUp to 600Up to 1 sample can be loaded, XNUMX file is4GB(16bit / 44.1kHz stereo wav is equivalent to 6 hours 40 minutes). The sample file can use the stereo wav file of various formats up to 96kHz / 32 bit. A microSD card is included and includes samples by Richard Devine, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Joseph Pailo, Paul Barker, Baseck and others.

またSample edit modeWith, you can change or save the playback conditions for each sample slot, such as gain, trim start / end point, playback file assignment, and copy. By using this function, it is possible to cut out individual drum hits from one file (e.g. drum loop) as a slice, or increase the gain to create another sample with accent and increase the variation on the main unit. I will. These operations are performed without changing the Wav file.

All sample parameters such as 1V / Oct, sample selection, length, start position, etc. are voltage controllable, allowing you to quickly:
  • One shot / looping sampler
  • Basic granular synthesis and time stretching
  • Ping-pong loop that triggers each other's channels at End Out
  • Voltage-controlled beat chop using slices
  • Automated sampling using recording trigger input
  • Long performance recording
By using the combination of 2 channels and voltage control, you can make more advanced patches.

Other features are as follows.
  • Can load up to 600 samples (1 samples per bank, 10 banks). Banks are identified by 60 colors and their blinking status, and can be recognized intuitively
  • Comes with a microSD card containing over 200 samples. Includes samples created by various artists such as Richard Devine, Robert AA Lowe and Baseck.
  • The wav file in the microSD card is not deleted by the module. The Wav file itself remains on the microSD card even when the file assigned to the sample slot is changed by recording or copying in addition to editing in the edit mode.
  • Design with extremely low noise and jitter
  • The recorded audio is immediately recorded on the microSD card and is accessible.
  • Works in stereo or mono mode. Press and hold the two Bank buttons to switch:
     · Stereo mode: Mixes stereo audio from two channels and outputs as stereo from L and R
-Mono mode: The audio output as mono from each channel is output from L and R, respectively.
  • Firmware update possible by pouring audio

The explanation of each part is displayed by mouse over
Function display in edit mode is also possible. The function of the part where the color has changed changes

Bank selection

STS allows you to select the sample slot to play for each channel. Samples are stored in a bank with 1 samples each, and samples in the same bank can be controlled by the CV as well as the knob. The 10 banks are identified using the bank button colors and blinking.
Press the Bank button to change the selected bank in this order. The button is lit at first, but if you press the Bank button while Pearl is lit, it will move to White, which flashes once. To return the bank in the opposite direction, hold down the Reverse button and press the Bank button. With this bank selection method,Skip empty banks with no samplesWill not be selected. If you also want to select an empty bank, hold down the Edit button and press the Bank button.

Also, in order to quickly move between banks,Quick selection functionthere is. While holding down the Bank button of the channel you want to change, adjust the left and right Sample knobs. When you turn the Sample knob on the L side, you can switch the color (10 colors) of the sample bank that plays the channel of that Bank button. It does not change the blinking status of the bank. Turning the Sample knob on the R side switches the blinking status of the sample bank that plays the channel of that Bank button. Do not change the color of the bank.

Edit mode

Edit mode is a non-destructive editing function for each sample slot, which is performed by holding down the Edit Sample button at the top center of the module.L channelThe sample loaded in will be the editing target. The gold back caption on the panel shows the function of each knob and button in edit mode. Unlike the Start Position and channel volume controls, the information edited here isInformation set for each sample slotIt becomes, and it is possible to save it in a microSD card.

The following operations are possible.
  • Gain adjustment: While holding down the Edit Sample button, turn the R channel Sample knob to adjust the sample playback gain. The gain can be adjusted from 10% to 500% of the original, and clipping will occur if the gain is set too high. This is the amount of gain assigned to each sample and is not the same as adjusting the channel volume.
  • Adjustable range (trimming): You can adjust the playback start position (Scrub Start) at Start Position = 0 in the Wav file by turning the Start Pos knob of the R channel while pressing the Edit Sample button. You can also adjust the playback end position (Scrub End) at Length = 100% by pressing the Edit Sample button and turning the R channel Length knob. Turning the knob vigorously will move it a longer distance. By combining the copy functions below, you can assign (slice) different playback points for each sample slot from the same wav file. It can also be used to cut unnecessary silence and noise.
  • Change playback file assignment: You can change the file assigned to the current sample slot by combining the Edit Sample button and the L channel Reverse button. If you hold down the Edit Sample button and press the Reverse button, the assignment destination file will be changed in the following order.
    • Select in current folder in alphabetical order
    • Sequentially select Wav files that are not used from any sample slot
    • Select all samples (used wav files) in all banks sequentially from the first bank
Hold down the Edit Sample button and press the Reverse button for 2 seconds to select the first sample file in the bank. If you have selected the first of the existing banks, select the first file of the previous bank. If you hold down the Reverse button while holding down the Edit Sample button, playback will start from the first sample file in the first bank.
  • Copy of (virtual) sample file: If you hold down the Edit Sample button and press and hold the R channel Play button for 0.5 seconds, it will operate in edit mode and you can virtually copy and paste the sample.Copy does not actually copy the file, but rewrites the sample assignment information so that one file is accessed from multiple sample slots (trim points, gain, etc. are changed for each sample slot even if they point to the same file. Is possible).

Assign the copy source file to the L channel sample slot, and select the copy destination bank sample slot in advance for the R channel. If you hold down the Edit Sample button and press this button for 0.5 seconds, copying will be completed, and the R channel slot will also refer to the same file.
  • Saving the edited results: The edit result above and the assignment information of the recorded file aretemporaryIt is a small item and will be lost once the power is turned off. By holding the Edit Sample button and pressing the L channel Play button for 0.5 seconds, these sample edit results are saved to the microSD card, and the results will be reflected the next time the power is turned on.
  • Reverting the edited result (Revert): You can discard the temporary edits made by the sample edit function, or restore the state when you last saved (only before saving).
    • Hold down the Edit Sample button and press the Right Reverse button for 0.5 seconds to edit the sampleundocan.
    • If you hold down the Edit Sample button and R channel Reverse button and press the L channel Bank button for 2 seconds, the current L channelSelected bankDiscards the temporary edits made to the sample in and reverts to the last saved state.
    • While holding down the Edit Sample button and the right Reverse button, press both Bank buttons for 4 seconds,All banksDiscards the temporary edits made to the sample in and reverts to the last saved state.

SD card folder structure and file bank assignment rules

A microSD card is included with the module. STS requires a microSD card with high access speed, so if you prepare separatelyUHS Class 3 CardUse (the one with a 3 in the U). ExFAT is the best card format, but FAT32 will work. Also, do not remove the microSD card from the STS when the Busy LED is lit or blinking.
  • Folders under the microSD card will be one bank each
  • Put the Wav file you want to put in each bank directly under each folder (subfolders will be ignored)
  • Please do not use Japanese (double-byte) for file and folder names. Also, if the total folder name and file name exceeds 80 characters, it will not be recognized by STS.
  • Banks and files are assigned in alphabetical order by folder name and file name. Even if there are more than 10 files in the folder, the assignment will be determined in alphabetical order.
  • If you add a bank color name and the number of flashes to the beginning of the folder name, the folder will be assigned to that bank with priority. "Orange ~" is assigned to the bank that lights up orange constantly, and "Orange-1 ~" is assigned to the bank in which orange flashes once.
  • Wav files can be 32-bit floating point, 16/24 / 32-bit signed, 8-bit unsigned bit rate, sample rate supports files from 8kHz to 96kHz
  • A file called __Sample List __. html is created in the top folder of the microSD card, and the file name and length of the assigned sample are displayed. It can also be used for copying and viewing on a mobile phone.
  • The _STS.system folder stores the results of edits. Please back up this folder to save the previous sample assignments, gain, loop range information and other edit results.

Recording procedure
