MUSICAL FEATURES

Tallin is a 2-channel VCA with a particular sound quality and functionality.

For each channel, in addition to the signal input (CV can also be input), EXP and LIN2 CV inputsEquipped with. EXP is suitable for tremolo control by envelope and LIN for LFO, and it is also possible to use two CVs at the same time. In this case, it is the same as controlling two VCAs by connecting them in series, and two CVs are used for gain control by multiplication. Both inputs have 2V internally connected when unpatched. The knob acts as an attenuator for the CV input, so it acts as a manual gain control when not patched to the input.

Another feature of Tallin is sound quality. High quality sound quality has been achieved by using a fully adjustable discrete circuit instead of using off-the-shelf chips for the parts of the audio path.
  • When the switch is in the "LINEAR" position, the knob outputs a clean unity gain (magnitude equal) signal in the middle, and turning it to the right will give distortion due to natural soft clipping. However, this is the case when both CV inputs are CV = 8V (or not patched), so the response will change accordingly for CVs or envelopes whose height is not 8V (for example, if a CV larger than 8V is input. Knob distorts even on the left side)
  • If you set the switch to the "SYMMETRIC" position, you can get transistor distortion that contains a lot of 3rd harmonics.
  • If you set the switch to the "ASYM METRIC" position below, you can get a distortion similar to a vacuum tube that contains a lot of second harmonics.

The signal can be boosted up to 18 dB, so it can also be used to boost line level signals to modular levels.
