MUSICAL FEATURES

Mimeophon is a modern stereo audio repeater with enhanced echo delay effects. You can modulate time, space, and timbre, and you can morph and modulate between a very wide range of time scales, from microsound to phrase repetition. It supports both mono and stereo inputs.
  • Stereo input / output (mono possible)
  • It is possible to morph smoothly between the algorithms indicated by the LED color. It has the following algorithms: Karplus, Flange, Chorus, Echo, Looping
  • Rate controls the speed of repeats in the Zone
  • You can change the rate between left and right by Skew
  • uRate performs Doppler effect modulation
  • Tempo Sync modulates Rate with no Doppler effect, producing complex repeat patterns
  • Specify the number of repeats with Repeats
  • Halo allows repeats to blend into stereo space
  • Color controls the energy of feedback
  • From the Rate output, the gate is output according to the tempo after the Skew effect is applied.
  • Reverse playback is also possible with Zone
  • If you press the Hold button, no new audio will be input and the loop will continue. You can modulate this nondestructively
  • Parameters such as Time, Space and Color can be voltage controlled

How to Use

Overview and Controls

In Mimeophon, the input audio can be repeated the number of times specified in Repeats at the speed specified in Rate, and the speed can be further changed between left and right with Skew. Repeat sounds are colored with Halo or Color. Hold also ignores the input and repeats the current repeat indefinitely. By controlling these manually or by voltage, various effects can be produced. The basic role of each manipulator is shown below.

The explanation of each part is displayed by mouse over

Relationship between rate, zone and clock

One of the features of Mimeophon is that you can instantly change the repeat time interval from millisecond to nearly 1 minute and control the voltage. The repeat time interval is basically determined by Rate, and the range of Rate is determined by Zone. Zones are 8 kinds of audio buffers that exist in Mimephon, and Zone0 to Zone7 exist. Audio repeats are always done with zones specified. The buffer size decreases from the smaller zone number, and the larger the zone, the larger the scale of the time range controlled by Rate. The incoming audio is always recorded in all eight zones, and the time domain of the lower numbered (smaller) zones is nested in the time domain of the higher zones. When moving to a large zone, the sound of the past may be repeated rather than the sound that was previously repeated in the small zone.

When the external clock is not patched, the rate range for each zone is as follows.
  • Zone 0: 1.3ms to 20.4ms
  • Zone 1: 20.4ms to 81.6ms
  • Zone 2: 81.6ms to 326.5ms
  • Zone 3: 163.3ms to 653.1ms
  • Zone 4: 326.5ms to 1.306s
  • Zone 5: 653.1ms to 2.612s
  • Zone 6: 1.306s to 5.225s
  • Zone 7: 2.612s to 41.796s
Thus, except Zone 0 and 7, the maximum rate is set to 4 times the minimum rate. In Zones 0 and 7, this magnification is 16x. In addition, the minimum time of Zone 4 is half the maximum time of Zone 3, and the time range between zones is constructed with a sharp integer ratio, so echo timings are easy to overlap even if you switch zones. I will. Unlike rate, changing zone does not cause pitch change.

When patching a clock, Mimeophon will allow any time control other than μ-rate input to either sync to the clock or select only the associated crisp time intervals discontinuously. If you select the Zone closest to the time interval of the input clock and set Rate to the position after 12 o'clock, the repeat time will be synchronized with the clock time. If you set the time to 1/1, turning Rate will change only the sharp time intervals discontinuously as follows.
  • x2 (full left)
  • x1 3 / 4
  • x1 2 / 3
  • x1 1 / 2
  • x1 1/3
  • x1 1 / 4
  • 1/1 (up to 12:XNUMX)
  • / 1 1/4
  • / 1 1/3
  • / 1 1/2
  • / 1 2/3
  • / 1 3/4
  • / 2 (full right)
If you move the Zone from here, the range will change by 2x and 1 / 2x.
