MUSICAL FEATURES

Autodub is a discrete circuit stereo VCA that implements a DUB-style bidirectional stereo send / return circuit.A copy of the input signal is sent from the stereo send to the external module via a characteristic push button.Regardless of the operation mode, you can use the gate output by pressing a button to trigger an external event such as an envelope, and return it to the CV input to automate the dub effect or create a signal fade-in / out.

HOW TO USE

Autodub is a DC-coupled stereo VCA capable of DUB-style effects and event generation via live performance-oriented effects send activation buttons.

The SEND VCA is activated by a momentary/toggle selectable button at the bottom of the module. The normalized voltage that controls the VCA indicates clickless unmute/mute each time this button is turned ON/OFF respectively. The SEND VCA can also be controlled using an external CV, in which case the button will enable/disable the CV signal.

The GATE output provides gate = high whenever the button is activated. This feature allows timing control of external modules such as envelopes, VC switches, bursts, or sequence progression or other control signals when the button is in the ON state. These timed CVs can be routed to modulatable parameters on external modules or to the CV inputs of the unit's SEND VCAs to control effects send levels with more dynamic fades and modulations. to

Dry/Wet mixers allow tweaks of up to 2x gain on the original input signal and up to 4x gain on the RETURN signal when the SEND is routed to the return input. In this case, the LEVEL control fully attenuates or achieves potential gain.

With its DC-coupled design, Autodub doesn't just process audio signals, it can also interactively mix CV signals and boost these signals when you need higher levels.

INPUT

This is the input to the SEND VCA and is the main input for this unit. The LR inputs are normalized, so any mono signal patched to the L input is also applied to the R input.Inputs can be either an accompanying stereo L/R pair or up to two separate mono signals.

CV-IN

CV input for SEND VCA.Use this when you want to control the SEND VCA using an external CV. The LEVEL/CV knob defines gain depending on the level of the incoming CV and is designed to accommodate standard CV levels while still allowing additional gain. The minimum voltage level to achieve unity gain is approximately 3.75V.Therefore, from a 5V LFO to a 10V envelope, you can use it with plenty of gain. Also, a DC voltage of about 10V is normalized to this jack for using the module without an external CV. Unity gain is available at the SEND output when the LEVEL/CV knob is approximately in the middle position. Unity gain with a 5V signal is with the knob at approximately the 3 o'clock position, and additional gain can be gained at settings beyond these knob positions. Up to +10dB at CV of 6V.

SEND

This is the output of the SEND VCA. If you use Autodub as a simple stereo VCA, take your signal out of these outputs.Use the SEND ACTIVATION BUTTON to activate the control voltage of a normalized or externally patched VCA, whether used directly as a VCA or in an effect send patch. This button can be used as a mute without clicks or pops, as it exhibits a fast smoothing action on ON/OFF transitions. To build an effects loop, patch this SEND output to the input of any effector, and patch the effector's output to the unit's RETURN input.

RETURN

This is the return input to the dry/wet mixer. These inputs are also LR normalized, so a mono signal patched to the L input is also applied to the R input. An accompanying stereo L/R pair of signals or up to two separate mono signals can be used as REATURN inputs. A SEND VCA and a RETURN to the Dry/Wet mixer complete the effects loop. However, the SEND VCA and RETURN inputs do not necessarily have to be associated with the loop. For example, if you want to patch audio or CV to a SEND VCA for external processing and use the RETURN input to mix or boost additional external audio or CV sources with the original input signal. The level of the RETURN signal is controlled by the Dry/Wet control.

GATE

This output produces a 10V gate when the SEND ACTIVATION button is in the ON state. This can be used to activate external modules such as an envelope generator, or it can be used to advance the sequencer or generate other CV events that can be triggered. These functions are timed to be active whenever the SEND button is ON, so you can use these CV events to send SEND VCAs, FX module parameters, or any other function you want to sync with Autodub. Can be used for modulation.

OUTPUT

The final output from the dry/wet mixer, containing the mix of the original signal to the main input and the return signal. A small knob labeled DRY-WET controls the level of this mixed output:

DRY-WET

This small knob controls the mix balance between the original signal to the main input and the return signal, with the ability to add up to +6dB of gain to the signal.Setting this knob to the middle position provides unity gain, which is typical when the original signal at the main input is an overdubbing effect. The RETURN signal is also set to unity gain in this position, but the LEVEL/CV knob affects the pre-gain of the RETURN signal when building effects loops. As mentioned in the CV IN section, setting the LEVEL knob to the middle position gives a unity gain SEND level for 10V CV and roughly 5 o'clock for 3V CV.By slightly shifting left or right from the center position, it is possible to fine-tune the balance between DRY and WET, and a range of about 11:1 to 6:XNUMX provides a few dB if needed.Knob settings beyond this range significantly alter the dry-to-wet ratio, with the minimum setting adding +XNUMXdB of gain to the DRY signal and the maximum setting adding +XNUMXdB of gain to the WET signal, completely attenuating the unamplified side. To do.For overdub effects, this control is typically set in the middle position and only fine-tuned as needed. If you want to create a copy of the original gain-adjusted main input signal for audio or CV boosting, or if you want a fully WET RETURN signal with the ability to add gain to low-level signals, or Additional gain is available if you want to overdrive other modules.

LEVEL/CV

Controls the gain and attenuation of the SEND VCA.As mentioned, this control can add up to +6dB of gain to the SEND, depending on the maximum voltage level of your CV. By default, the CV IN is normalized to a voltage of 10V, and with the knob in the middle position the SEND OUTPUT level is unity gain, with a maximum gain of about +6dB. For a 5V CV, it provides unity gain at about the 3 o'clock position, and about +4dB at maximum. When this control is set to its maximum value,You can get a unity gain SEND level with a CV as low as 3.75V.When this knob is set to its minimum value, all levels of CV are completely attenuated and no signal is output from the SEND output.

MODE SWITCH

A sliding switch that determines the operation of the SEND ACTIVATION button. The closed circle position on the left is momentary mode and the split circle position on the right is toggle mode.In momentary mode, the green LED is lit and SEND is active only while the button is held down. This action is executed immediately when the button is pressed. In Toggle mode, SEND will be enabled/disabled each time the button is pressed. This action will be executed immediately when you release the button. This behavior of preloading state is especially useful when SEND timing is critical. When switching between modes, the last state of toggle mode is preserved.

SEND ACTIVATION BUTTON

Pressing the button activates the SEND VCA and outputs a 10V gate signal from the GATE output jack.As mentioned above, button operation is selectable via MODE SWITCH and works in either momentary or toggle mode. The green square in the center of the button is illuminated and will illuminate when the button is active, the SEND VCA is open, and a gate = high signal is being sent from the GATE jack.
