In short, Onward is a dynamic sampler. This is an effect that automatically samples the input sound in response to the strength of the performance and plays back the sample effectively. This method of ``sampling and applying effects'' has been common for DJs and track makers, but we have made it easy to use for other players such as guitarists.
At the heart of Onward are two channels: GLITCH and FREEZE. GLITCH plays the sample in pieces, while FREEZE creates a smooth, relatively gentle pad sound from the sample. It is also possible to hold one and have the other continue to respond to input.
The SUSTAIN knob and FADE toggle are used to set the sample playback length, fade in/out, and sample crossfade length. You can shape samples like a synthesizer.
ERROR creates variations, unexpected events, and organic movements in GLITCH and FREEZE by destabilizing the sample. There are 3 modes: TIMING, CONDITION, and PLAYBACK
TIMING…The timing at which the sample is played will be random.
CONDITION…Sound dropouts and digital sound deterioration may occur.
PLAYBACK...Samples will be played back at various speeds and directions.
When SPREAD is turned on, these errors will occur separately on the L and R sides, creating a special stereo image. It is also possible to turn on three modes at the same time.
Onward also includes three effects: OCTAVE, TEXTURE, and ANIMATE.
OCTAVE...Blends the sound of a sample played at double speed or 1/2 speed.
TEXTURE: You can add texture by adding subtle clipping distortion or lowering the sample rate.
ANIMATE...Adds vibrato or chorus effect to the signal.
