Folders, presets, channels, samples

With Assimil8or, the data in the micro SD is called to the internal memory, the sample is assigned to 8 channels from it, and it plays individually in various modes. The internal memory can be accessed very fast, resulting in a very low latency of less than 0.2ms. In Assimil8or only one folder is loaded into memory at a time and active. Therefore, there is no limit to the capacity of the Micro SD card, but the total sample files assigned to all presets in the active folder must be 1MB or less.

Place the folder directly under the top folder of the micro SD card.folderTopresetContains 8 presetsChannelIt consists of Each channel contains all information such as sample assignment, playback method, parameter value, CV assignment, etc. The folder contains this preset information and all the sample files assigned in the preset. Up to 1 presets can be used per folder. The file can be 199 bit, any sample rate, mono or stereo WAV file can be used (the bit depth during playback can be finely changed with the Mutate button).

To load the folder,Load buttonPress. Immediately after loading a folderHome screenThen, just rotate the DATA1 encoder → clickLoad presetYou can also select the CV input assigned to DATA2 by turning the DATA2 knob while holding down the Play Mode button. You can display the home screen by pressing the PITCH button again when another screen, for example, the PITCH setting screen is displayed.

I loaded the preset from the home screen, but I can't save the presetSave buttonPress to perform. To overwrite the current preset without changing its name, press and hold the Save button or the Data1 encoder for 2 seconds (a help message will appear on the screen). To change the preset destination, press the Save button, turn the encoder to change the preset, and press and hold the Save button or Data1. Click Data1 to enter the screen for changing the preset name.

Basically, sample assignment etc. is done from the sample in the active folder, but samples, channels, presets etc. from another folder in the inactive micro SD card to the active folderimportcan. For large data, it may take time to transfer to internal memory. To import, just press the Load button like loading a folder. Highlight the folder containing the sample / channel / preset you want to import and double-click the Load button. In the folder that opens, highlight the sample or preset you want to import, click it and select Import. The channels are part of the preset, so highlight the preset, double-click the Load button further, select the channel you want to import, and click.

Channel settings

ChannelIs the sample played by the gate input and its playback parameter information. There are 1 channels in one preset. To switch channel assignment samples and make various settings, proceed as follows.

Channels / Select buttonPress to display the Channels screen, showing the sample name, channel mode (MD), and crossfade group (X) for each channel. You can also select the CV input to which the Data2 knob is assigned in the bottom D2CV field.

Channels screen

The sample name will be the sample name of the first zone when the zone is set. Channel mode is the setting of how to associate triggers with other channels. Handling of stereo samples is also done here. The crossfade group specifies the group where the output crossfades with CV.

Change sampleTo do this, highlight the sample name and click the encoder to select the sample. If the new sample is already assigned to some other preset or channel in the active folder it will be called immediately as it is already in internal memory, but for samples that are not already assigned from anywhere the time to load It may take. Also, instead of changing the sample, oneCopy channel information from other presetsTo do so, press and hold the encoder with the sample name highlighted.

Channel modeTo change, highlight the item in the MD column and click the encoder. Channel modes are as follows.
  • Master: Master mode is a normal trigger mode in which the sample is played back by the corresponding Gate / Trig input. If you want to use each channel as a mono independent sample, set all channels to Master
  • link: Link mode does not respond to the corresponding Gate / Trig input, but to the Gate / Trig input of the closest master mode channel above your channel. This is convenient when you want to use multiple channels in layers. You can also create multiple link groups within eight channels.
  • Stereo / Right: Stereo mode is the mode to play the R side when the sample file is stereo 2CH. However, the Gate / Trig input will respond to Master mode channels above you. Also, since stereo is assumed, the sample parameters are disabled except for Pan, and the parameter settings of the Master mode channel corresponding to the L side are inherited. For Pan, you can freely set Pan in Stereo Out instead of literally setting L and R to LR. If you want to play one stereo file on CH3 and CH4, set CH1 to Master and CH3 to Stereo / Right mode, and assign the same sample stereo file.
  • Cycle: Cycle mode channels are played in sequence on each gate, including the closest Master channel above it. The Gate / Trig input of the Master channel is used for playback, and it does not respond to the Gate / Trig of the channel in cycle mode. It is suitable for use in overlapping samples like polyphony
Crossfade groupTo change, highlight the item in column X and click the encoder. Assign the channels you want to crossfade to a crossfade group of the same alphabet. The CV used for the crossfade can be set at the bottom of the Channels page.

Zone settings

Up to eight samples can be assigned to each channel, and the playback sample can be switched by CV.zoneI call it. To switch zone assignment samples and make various settings, proceed as follows.

When you press the Zones / Select button, the Zones screen is displayed, showing the sample name of each zone in the currently selected channel, the corresponding voltage range, etc., which can be selected and changed with the encoder. You can also select the CV input used for zone selection in the bottom field. You can also switch between zone switching only at the moment the gate is received or during sample playback. You can also add new zones or delete zones. You can copy a zone by pressing and holding the encoder, just like copying a channel.

parameter settings

The sample played by Assimil8or has various parameters that can be set item by knob or assigned to the CV input.

To set the parameters, first select the channel you want to set. By holding down the Channels / Select button and pressing the desired channel button, you can select that channel without playing the sample. If a zone is set for that channel, you can select the zone sample without playing it by pressing the channel button of the zone you want to set while holding down the Zones / Select button.

After selecting the channel or zone, press the button for the parameter you want to set. Pitch, Level, Phase Mod, Mutate, Pan / Mix, Sample Start, Sample End, Loop Start, Loop End / Length, Play Mode, Envelope, Loop Mode are the buttons for the parameters that should be set. When you press any of those buttons, the displayed items differ depending on the parameter, but the default value of the parameter, the CV assign destination, the assigned CV attenuverter value, etc. are displayed. Turn the DATA1 encoder to highlight the parameter you want to set, and turn the DATA2 knob to quickly set the parameter value. If you want to set the parameter value in the smallest unit, click the DATA1 encoder, turn it, and click again to confirm. For example, when setting the loop start point, the DATA1 encoder can be adjusted in 1-sample units.

Parameter setting screen example: Sample Start The sample start position is highlighted.
  • Pitch: Pitch control. CV input selection, attenuverter settings, default pitch, etc. can be set for each sample or zone.
  • Level: Volume control. CV input selection, attenuverter settings, default volume, etc. can be set for each sample or zone.
  • Phase Mods: This button opens the phase modulation settings. You can select the phase modulation source, select the CV input for the modulation amount (index), set the attenuverter, and set the default parameter value for each sample or zone.
  • Mutate: Set various audio quality settings. Bit depth and alias, selection of those CV inputs, setting of Attenuverter, setting of reverse and smoothing are possible.
  • Pan / Mix: These buttons are used to set the panning and level for stereo Mix Out. You can select the CV input from the default value and set the attenuverter for each sample or zone. The level is specified by the relative magnitude with respect to the volume of the individual output set by Level.
  • Sample Start & Sample End: This button opens the sample start and end settings. You can select the CV input from the default value and set the attenuverter for each sample or zone. It is easy to set the start point etc. using both the Data1 encoder and the Data2 knob.
  • Loop Start & Loop End (Length): This button opens the loop start and loop end (or length) settings. CV input selection, attenuverter settings, default pitch, etc. can be set for each sample or zone. Whether the loop is specified by length or by endpoint can be toggled by pressing and holding this button while the End or Length parameter is highlighted. It is easy to set the start point etc. using both the Data1 encoder and the Data2 knob.
  • Play Mode: This button sets the playback mode. 1Shot mode plays the sample from beginning to end when it receives a gate. In Gated mode, the sample will continue playing while the gate is on, and will release according to the internal envelope when it is off.
  • Envelope: This button sets the envelope. You can select the CV input from the default attack and release values, and set the attenuverter settings for each sample or zone. You can also set whether to start the attack while maintaining the height of the envelope during retriggering, or restart it from 0V.
  • Loop Mode: Switches Loop mode. LED off is Loop mode off. Loop mode turns ON when the LED is on, and when in 1-shot mode, the loop continues until stopped manually. When Gated mode and Loop mode are ON, the loop continues while the gate is ON. The behavior after the gate is turned off is different between the top and bottom of the LED, and is released as a loop in Normal Loop mode in which the upper LED lights up, and in the gated OFF mode of the lower LED, it is released toward the sample endpoint when the gate is turned off. sampling

Assimil8or has 2CH input for sampling, and manual sampling by Sample button, sampling by trigger from CV input, sampling with threshold set at input level is possible. Settings related to sampling, including these settings, are accessed from the Sampling Setup button. When you've finished making settings for sampling, press and hold the Sampling Setup button to enter the recording standby (arm) And sample using one of the above methods (depending on the setting, recording without an arm is also possible). Sampling will end when you press the Sample button again, when the specified sample time is reached, or when a second trigger is received from the specified CV input. From the Sampling Setup screen, select whether to keep or discard the sampled file

Sampling Setup screen

The setting items on the Sampling Setup screen are as follows.
  • destination: This is the assignment destination of the sampled file. Select from Unassigned, Channel1-8, and Empty Channel.
  • Record Mode: Once will sample only once during the Sampling Time or less, as usual. Circular repeats sampling until you stop sampling with the button or CV, sampling for the time set in Sampling Time, and overdubbing from the beginning.
  • Sampling Time: Set the sampling time.
  • Sampling Rate: Select the sample rate from 48kHz / 96kHz / 192kHz.
  • Naming Mode: Set the naming rule for newly sampled files
  • High pass filter: Select DC coupled if you also want to sample CV, and select AC coupled if you want to remove the DC component when sampling audio.
  • Arming Safety: Sampling Setup button Set whether to require the arm state by long pressing. If * HOT * is selected, the arm state is not required to perform sampling. However, even in this case, arm state is required for Threshold sampling.
  • Level: Adjust the input signal level from -30dB to + 24dB. The meter reacts when the sample signal is sent, so you can set the appropriate level.
  • Side: This is the setting for the channel to be sampled. Left / Right / Stereo (sampled as stereo wav) / Dual Mono (sampled as two mono Wav)
  • Threshold and CV Trigger Assign: If the level of the input signal exceeds a certain value, sampling starts automatically. For threshold sampling, set the threshold value. When sampling is started by the trigger input to CV, specify the corresponding CV input
