  • Sign / Random LFO with Frequency and Amplitude Control
  • Drone / Noise Oscillator
  • Gate recording function
  • Two 2-position CV panners
  • Skiff friendly thin design

HOW TO USE

The explanation of each part is displayed by mouse over

Black Joystick 2 offers two configurable options. To access the option settings, hold down the MODE button and power on the module. Then use the CH2 button to set option 1 and the CH1 button to set option 2.The corresponding CH button lights up when the option is enabled.

  1. Save joystick position: Set whether to memorize the position of the joystick when switching channels. For example, let's say you can set it to a specific joystick position that meets your preferences while operating in Sine mode on channel 1.Suppose you then switch to channel 2 and record automation. If you return to channel 1 with the joystick position save option disabled, the speed / amplitude ratio you set earlier is lost. This is because the joystick position has changed. If the save joystick position option is enabled, returning to channel 1 retains the parameter values until the joystick position you set earlier is passed again.
You may want to disable this option if you want a quick response from the joystick, or enable it if you need more control over the overall joystick positioning.
  2. Recall settings for the last selected channel: When this option is enabled, the module saves all settings for the last selected channel and recalls them the next time the module is powered on.
4 operating modes
  • Joystick: Outputs signals from -5V to + 5V from the X and Y outputs, depending on the position of the joystick. You can record the joystick motion for up to 8 seconds while holding down the REC button. The recorded motion is automatically looped back.To clear the recorded contents, hold down the MODE button and click the REC button.
  • Sinewave LFO / Drone Oscillator: A low-frequency sine wave is output from the X output, and the same waveform with a 90-degree phase shift is output from the Y output. The X position of the joystick defines the frequency of the sine wave, and the Y position defines the amplitude. By holding down the REC button, you can record changes in frequency and amplitude, and the recorded motion will be played back automatically in a loop.To clear the recorded contents, hold down the MODE button and click the REC button.
To switch to Drone Oscillator mode (audio rate sine wave), hold down the MODE button and press and hold the CH button for 2 seconds. The brightness of the CH button drops to about 50%, indicating that the mode has been changed. To disable Drone Oscillator mode, do the same again.
  • Ramdom LFO / Noise Oscillator: A stepwise random voltage is output from the X and Y outputs. The X position of the joystick defines the frequency change of the random voltage, and the Y position defines the amplitude. By holding down the REC button, you can record changes in frequency and amplitude, and the recorded motion will be played back automatically in a loop.To clear the recorded contents, hold down the MODE button and click the REC button. To switch to Noise Oscillator mode, perform the same operation as in Sine Oscillator mode described above.
  • SNEW(South-North-East-West) Panner: This mode provides a 0x5 CV output, each varying from 4V to + 2V.For example, set channel 1 and channel 2 to SNEW mode. The joystick moves from the center to the right (East) to output a voltage of 1V to + 1V from Y2, up (North) from X2, left (West) from Y0, and down (South) from X5.Pairs of channels 3 and 4 work as well. This is useful for controlling 4-channel VCA, crossfader, VCF, VCA, and other modules at the same time.Even in this mode, you can record the motion by holding down the REC button, and the recorded motion will be played back automatically in a loop.To clear the recorded contents, hold down the MODE button and click the REC button.

Hold down the MODE button to see the operating mode of the current module. The associated Mode Selector button flashes to indicate the mode being selected. Also, by selecting a different mode, the recorded automation is cleared instantly.
