MUSICAL FEATURES

Bootleg #1.1 is a multi-functional envelope generator with a fully analog circuit configuration, based on Serge's DSG (Dual Slope Generator).

In addition to the features of the previous model, "Bootleg #1," it now includes a noise generator, sample and hold (S&H) circuit, loop gate control, and a final stage attenuator. It can be used as an envelope, LFO, slew limiter, audio oscillator, rhythm sound source, and random clock/CV generator.

Controls & Connections

1. OUT
This is the main output of the envelope signal.

Factory setting: 0V to +8V output. Variable from -1x to +1x.
The maximum output voltage can be adjusted using the trimmer on the back.

2. EOC/R (End of Cycle / Rise)
It outputs a gate signal synchronized with the envelope state.

Default setting: Output a gate when the envelope's descent ends (End of Cycle).
Customization: By adjusting the jumper settings on the back of the board, you can change the setting to output the gate while the board is descending (Fall).

3. SAH (Random CV Out)
This is a stepped random CV output generated by a built-in Sample and Hold circuit.

Operation: The built-in noise is sampled at the timing set in EOC/R.
Output range: Approximately 0-5V (adjustable with the semi-fixed resistor on the back).

4. NOISE / SAMP IN
Top (NOISE): This is the output of the built-in white noise generator.
Bottom (SAMP IN): This is an external signal input. When a plug is connected here, the source of the lower SAH switches from internal noise to an external signal.
*Since internal noise is generated by a completely analog circuit, there may be variations in voltage fluctuations due to individual differences. (Selection is performed during the manufacturing process.)

5. TRIG IN
This is the trigger input to start the envelope.

Characteristics: While the envelope is operating, it ignores new trigger signals. This can also be used to achieve a clock decimation effect.

6. Signal IN
This is an external signal input. Use it when using it as a slew limiter, ASR envelope, lag processor, or low-pass filter.

7. RISE / FALL Knobs
Adjust the rise time and fall time individually.

Operation: Turning clockwise increases the time.
Variable range: When combined with CV modulation, it can be adjusted from ultra-low speeds of over 20 minutes to an audio range of approximately 5kHz.

8. Loop Switch / Input
Switch the envelope's self-cycle (self-propelled) mode.

Switch ON: The cycle repeats, and it operates as an LFO or oscillator.
Input: When the switch is OFF, it is possible to create a loop only while a gate signal is input to this jack.

9. CV Controls
The jacks, switches, and knobs connected by dotted lines are sections for modulating the slope characteristics in real time.

RISE / BOTH / FALL switch: Select the target that will be affected by the CV.
± knob (attenuator): Adjusts the depth and polarity of the input CV.
When EXP switch #10 is set to LIN (Linear): It functions as a pure CV input.

10. Exponential - Linear Switch (Shape Control)
Switches the envelope curve (response characteristics).

LIN: Linear change.
EXP: Exponential or logarithmic change. In this mode, the output from Out is internally connected to the modulation circuit.
⚪︎Effect of the ±CV knob (number 9): Turning it counterclockwise changes the curve to an exponential function, and turning it clockwise changes it to a logarithmic function.

11. Atten Knob
This is an attenuator that adjusts the voltage level of the final output (OUT).

Center (12 o'clock): No output.
Clockwise rotation: Output in positive phase (maximum 1x).
Counterclockwise: Output in reverse phase (maximum -1x).

Main application examples

AD/ASR Envelope: Use TRIG IN or Signal IN.
LFO: Turn on Loop and adjust the period with RISE/FALL.
Slew Limiter: Takes a stepped CV input to Signal IN and converts it into a smooth change.
VCO: Turns on Loop to speed up Rise/Fall. Pitch control is possible via CV input (not V/Oct).
Random Source: Patch the voltage output from the SAH jack to the pitch or filter cutoff.
Percussion Sound:
Patch example:
i. Input NOISE into the IN port of the upper unit.
ii. Connect the OUT of the lower unit to the CV IN of the upper unit.
iii. Turn on Loop on the lower unit and adjust the envelope with Rise and Fall.
⚪︎Noise is filtered out, while random CVs create a percussive sound source with complex changes in timbre and timing.
