MUSICAL FEATURES

TEMPI is a 6-channel polyphonic "time shifting" module. It creates an intricate clock in a modular system and provides an intuitive way to recall it later. It is also possible to create a new rhythm from a classic clock divider / multiplier-like rhythm. Up to 64 rhythms can be stored, and they can also be selected by voltage using the CV and Select Bus in the modular. As the master clock, use an external clock patched to the TEMPO jack. If not patched, the last saved tempo will be used, but synchronization via the Eurorack-powered Gate bus is also possible via the settings.

How to Use

To program the clock for each channelHumanMode andMachineTwo modes are possible. You can program in Human mode simply by tapping the button for each channel (the resolution to correct the deviation can also be set).

In Machine mode, hold down PGM A (divide: 1 / X) or PGM B (multiply: X times) and press the channel button X times. It is possible from 1/32 to 32 times. The clock that I typed in isShift the speed a littleIt can be a clock that is a non-integer multiple of the master clock or a fraction of a fraction. Hold down the button of the channel you want to shift and press PGM A or B to slow down or speed up.

The clock typed in Machine mode has the same speed,Shift timing (phase)It is also possible. Press PGM A and PGM both to enter Phase setting mode, and then press the channel button while pressing PGM A or B button according to the timing shift direction to correct coarse timing. By pressing the channel button and then the PGM A button or PGM B button, you can correct the fine timing.

mute, Press the PGM A button to enter Mute mode, then press the channel you want to mute.

CourageYou can use the inputs to switch between start / stop / reset control and output trigger channels. This target channel can be selected. Press the PGM B button to enter Mod mode, then select the channel you want to target for Mod.

StateIs the set clock information for all channels, and you can save 1 per bank and select with knob or voltage. If you press CH16 while holding both PGM A and B buttonsCopy state, Press CH5State paste, Press CH6Paste by adding variations based on the copied stateTo do. You can save while holding down both PGM A and B buttons.

Major features

The main features are:
  • Programmable and patchable 6-channel clock
  • There are two programs available: an intuitive HUMAN program and an accurate MACHINE program.
  • ClockNumber of divisions / multiples, phase (timing shift), Mute, ModCan be programmed
  • Number of divisions / multiples that are not integersPhases and phases also make synchronism and out-of-sync rhythms easier, opening the limitations of traditional clock-based.
  • Clock ModChannels can be shifted and Run / Stop can be controlled by
  • All programming is done in real time,StateCan be recalled later
  • State is stored somewhere in 16 banks (4 states in total) that can store 64 states.
  • State can be selected by voltage.
  • The external tempo remembers the last saved tempo.
  • It produces a stable clock with less jitter.
  • It goes well with Rene2.

Mute

In mute mode,Press the PGM A buttonenter. You can switch between mute and unmute by pressing the button for each channel.

Human Programming

In Human programming, you can tap the button of the channel you want to program at least twice to determine the clock speed. This is an intuitive method that allows you to determine the number of divisions / multiples and the phase (timing) at the same time.

Human programming precision can be set in 1 levels of resolution with buttons 3 to 3 on the Program Edit page. For details on the settings, refer to the description of ProgramEdit. At a setting of 100%, the rhythm is strongly quantized, with 25% being the weakest quantize.

Machine Programming

It is a programming method that sets the number of divisions / multiples and the phase (timing) with the buttons. While holding down PGM A (divide: 1 / X) or PGM B (multiply: X times), Press the channel button X times. It is possible from 1/32 to 32 times. To return to 1: 1, hold PGM A and B and press the channel button only once.

* With TEMPI31 or later, you can divide by 1 / (X * 2 ^ Y) by holding down PGM_A and pressing a channel button X times, and then holding PGM_A and pressing PGM_B Y times. If PGM_A and B are reversed, the same operation will result in (X * 2 ^ Y) times multiplication.

Of the clock typed in Machine modeShift timing (phase)IsPress both PGM A and PGMBPlease enter the Phase setting mode. Depending on the timing shift directionWhile holding down the PGM A or B buttonPress the channel button to correct the coarse timing. By pressing the channel button and then the PGM A button or PGM B button, you can correct the fine timing.

Courage

You can press the channel button to switch ON / OFF whether or not to make it the target of the mod (shift is also performed in the selected channel).

StatesEdit

Tempi can store 64 clock scenarios in 4 banks as 16 states. The states can be controlled by the central knob or CV, and can be sequenced by the gate input. In addition, saving and loading of states, copy paste, etc.Hold down both PGM A and PGM BPress each channel button to do:
Press Button 1 to reload the current state.
Press Button 2 to save the current state.
Press Button 3 to reload the current bank.
Press Button 4 to copy the currently selected state.
Press Button 5 to paste the copied state.
Press Button 6 to change (Mutate) the copied state and paste it.

Bank Edit

To the Bank Edit page,Press the PGM A button twicePlease come in. The contents of the bank can be edited with each button.
Press Button 1 to select the bank. (Switches between banks 1 to 4)
Press Button 2 to save all Banks and Tempos.
Press Button 3 to enable Select Bus or Tempo Bus.
Press Button 4 to copy the currently selected bank.
Press Button 5 to paste the copied bank into the currently selected bank.
Press Button 6 to change (Mutate) the copied bank and paste it into the currently selected bank.

ProGraM Edit

To the Program Edit page,Press the PGM B button twicePlease come in. You can make detailed settings with each button.

Human programming resolution can be set with buttons 1 to 3. 1 is 100%, 2 is 50%, and 3 is 20%.

4 ~ 6 is MOD setting, press the button until the color corresponding to the desired setting.
Button 4 is a modification of how to shift the output of the MOD. When it is pressed, the run / stop control by the MOD is disabled.
Clockwise shift: red
Counterclockwise shift: blue
Random shift: purple
.

Button 5 becomes the setting of the run / stop control by MOD, and when it is pressed, the output shift by MOD is invalid.

-RUN / STOP (CH5 = red): On the MOD page, the channel targeted for MOD will run when MOD = ON, and will stop when MOD = OFF
-RUN / STOP ALL (CH5 = blue): Regardless of whether it is a target of MOD, all run with MOD = ON, stop with MOD = OFF
-RUN / STOP ALT (CH5 = purple): Channels subject to MOD run with MOD = ON, and channels not subject to MOD stop with MOD = ON. MOD = OFF is the opposite

Button 6 has different items that can be set depending on whether the MOD control is output shift or run / stop. In case of output shift, Jumbled shift or normal shift is set. In the case of Run / Stop, the Run / Stop toggles depending on the MOD gate (button light OFF) or the state changes only while the gate is ON (momentary, button red).

firmware Update

* The latest firmware is 2017 as of August 8. If firmware 31 is already installed, the 31 buttons will flash when the power is turned on. In other cases, please follow the procedure below to update.

The firmware update method is as follows. Update the audio file by playing it into TEMPI.
  • hereDownload the latest firmware ZIP from the link in and unzip the ZIP file.
  • Prepare the audio file named tempi (number) .wav in the unzipped file for playback. The device for playback may be a smartphone, PC, DAW, etc., but make sure that no other sound is heard. If the firmware update fails during playback, TEMPI will lose normal functionality and will be unusable until the firmware update is successful.
  • Set the playback device volume to 100%. Be sure to turn off Ableton's Warp function.
  • Leave the TEMPI power still off.
  • Patch the cable from the audio file output jack on the playback device to the TEMPO jack on TEMPI.
  • Insert the patch cable as a dummy into the TEMPI MOD jack, and do not connect the other side to anything.
  • Turn on the power while pressing the 2,4,6, XNUMX, and XNUMX buttons of TEMPI.
  • Hold down the three buttons until the STATE LED flashes red and orange alternately.
  • Start playing the audio file.
  • If the channel buttons flash alternately and the STATE LED starts flashing green, the firmware update process is successful.
  • When the audio file finishes playing, TEMPI will automatically restart and return to the normal state.
