MUSICAL FEATURES

Zadar is a unique 4-channel envelope generator / LFO that recalls and uses many preset waveforms. Although it is compact and has many powerful functions due to its digital characteristics, it has a high operability due to its simple interface.

Zadar first chooses a waveform to use in the envelope from hundreds of preset waveforms. Since this waveform data consists of flexible vector data, you can extend, reverse, control the curve, delay, or repeat the time from 1 millisecond or less to 30 minutes. Most parameters, including these parameters, can be assigned to be voltage controlled.

The four envelopes that have a wealth of functions as described above can be set and triggered independently, but they can also be used in combination using chains or loops. The setting is made by switching the setting menu of several pages with the red button in the middle, but the menu structure is simple and only one level.

  • Independent 4-channel envelope
  • Stores 260 waveform data in vector data format
  • Time range is 0.85 milliseconds to 30 minutes
  • The recalled waveform can be boldly transformed by Warp and Response controls
  • Quick and comfortable operability
  • You can freely set the number of loops of the envelope or create a more complex envelope by chaining multiple envelopes.
  • Assignable to almost all parameters, 4 CV inputs with built-in Attenuverter.
  • Settings can be stored in 18 presets

HOW TO USE

Zadar consists of A to D envelope channels with separate trigger input, CV input and signal output. The trigger input triggers or retriggers the envelope and the CV input is used for voltage control of envelope parameters (input range -10V to 10V). The envelope output moves in the range of 0-10V, but it can be controlled by the LEVEL encoder or CV.

Envelope parameters

Four rotary encoders are used to set envelope parameters for each channel. On the main screen, press the blue channel select button to select the envelope you want to set, then turn the encoder to adjust the parameters. The encoders are each used to control two envelope parameters:
  • Shape / Rev encoder: Turn to select the waveform. The list of waveforms isChart (pdf) Please refer to. You can also reverse the front and back of the waveform by clicking the encoder
  • RTG / Time encoder: Turn to set the time from the beginning to the end of the envelope. It can be set in the range of 30 minutes to 0.85 milliseconds. Click the encoder to switch the retrigger mode between DG (digital envelope method) / AN (analog envelope method). In DG mode, if a trigger is received during envelope output, it will restart from the beginning of the envelope. In AN mode, if a trigger is received during envelope output, it will restart from the point of reaching the same voltage value before the point of receiving the trigger. There is also the advantage that no glitches are created in the envelope voltage value and glitches are reduced.

Difference between retrigger method of AN and DG
  • Warp / RSP encoder: Warp continuously changes the time balance of the envelope when turned. For example, when Warp = 0, the triangular waveform changes like a falling sawtooth wave at Warp minimum and an ascending sawtooth wave at Warp maximum. Click the encoder to switch the setting parameter from Warp to Response. Reponse continuously changes the vertical balance of the envelope. Typically, the envelope curve is changed from logarithmic type → linear type → exponential type.
  • Sus / Level encoder: In Zadar, Sustain does not control the sustain level like a normal envelope, but rather by specifying a point in the envelope that stays there as long as the input gate is high, causing sustain. Sus Control sets the time. You can choose no sustain after the end of the envelope. Click the encoder to change the setting parameter to Level. Controls the size of the output envelope from 1-0V

Menu page

In addition to displaying the envelope waveform and setting parameters, Zadar also provides access to three page menu settings. The red menu button in the middle cycles through the three menu pages. Editing is easy because there is no need to switch the screen for each channel or submenu. The role of the encoder changes in each menu.
  • CV Assignment Menu: Select the parameter that assigns the CV for each channel, and set the attenuverter (signed modulation amount). Since each encoder corresponds to each channel, press the encoder of the channel you want to set to select the parameter you want to set, and turn the encoder to set the value. The list of parameters that can be assigned CV is as follows
    • SHP: Envelope waveform selection
    • TIM: TIME control. Setting Attenuverter to -50 gives a scale close to 1V / Oct control
    • WRP: WARP control
    • RSPs: RESPONSE control
    • LVL: LEVEL control
    • Rep: Number of repeats (see chain setting menu)
    • PHS: Phase (see chain setting menu)
    • REV: Use gate input to switch the presence / absence of REVERSE
    • SUS: When to sustain
    • FRZ: Holds current level by gate input
  • Chain setting menu: In addition to selecting complex waveforms, Zadar has the option to combine multiple channels to create complex envelopes, which can be set from the chain menu. In the chain menu, an envelope can trigger another envelope, repeat, delay, etc. Since each encoder corresponds to each channel, press the encoder of the channel you want to set to select the parameter you want to set, and turn the encoder to set the value.
    • CHAIN settings: Envelope allows you to make chain group settings that trigger other envelopes. 16 types of settings are possible. In the image above, after CH A rises, B rises, C rises, etc. after the time specified in PHASE of B elapses, creating a chain of envelopes. Triggers / gates input to envelopes other than the chain start will be ignored. If you select a looped chain, the envelope chain will cycle.
    • PHASE setting: Sets the delay for envelope activation. Set as a percentage of the entire envelope time that also reflects repeats. For envelopes that are part of the chain, set when the previous envelope will trigger.
    • REPEAT settings: Sets how many times the envelope will be repeated after the first cycle. Values are 1 (no repeat) to 0, and ∞ to continue the cycle.
  • Preset menu: All envelope settings are stored in 18 presets for later recall. Use the red rotary encoder to select and confirm items such as saving, recalling, and setting to default preset.
  • Copy settings: Press and hold the CHANNEL button to display the copy menu of channel settings. You can paste the settings of the current channel to other channels or to all channels. You can navigate within the screen with the red rotary encoder.
  • Quick save: Even if you do not access the preset menu, you can press and hold the MENU button to save the current settings as a default preset (settings that you do not save will be lost when you turn off the power).
