Locutus is an expander module designed to interface Assimil8or with MIDI controllers, providing multi-channel modulation and triggering via MIDI, as well as new polyphonic possibilities.
Using a MIDI controller connected to the Locutus' MIDI IN port, you can modulate the Assimil8or's parameters with velocity, channel pressure and MIDI CC messages, select presets using MIDI Program Change (PC) messages, or trigger the Assimilator's channels with MIDI notes using user-selectable assignment modes. MIDI setups include a "Dynamic" mode which cycles the Assimil8or's channels for easy creation of polyphonic patches, a "Multi Assignment Mode" ideal for playing multi-timbral Assimil8or patches with a MIDI sequencer, and a "SP-1200 Mode" specifically designed for triggering the Assimilator with the MIDI output of an SP-1200.
The MIDI OUT port of Locutus can be used to send program messages when presets are changed, or to send MIDI CC data based on CVs patched to the 8 CV inputs of Assimil24or. Using the new CV-to-MIDI option, Assimil8or and Locutus can be configured to control and modulate MIDI gear using Eurorack modular systems.
