Connecting to a Wi-Fi network
Use the smartphone app called ESP BLE Provisioning to connect VCV Rack to the same Wi-Fi network as the computer you are using. The procedure is as follows. Once you set it, this setting will be maintained as long as you do not change the Wi-Fi network you are connecting to, so you do not need to use the app every time you start it.
- Power on the case. The Wi-Fi Expander button will light blue.
-
Please download the "ESP BLE Provisioning" app onto your smartphone. Use this app to tell the Wi-Fi Expander your Wi-Fi network information. As long as you use the same Wi-Fi network, you only need to do this the first time you use the app. After that, you won't need to do the following steps..
-
Open the ESP BLE Provisioning app.
If the app asks for permission to use your camera or Bluetooth, click "Allow" or "OK." If you don't want to allow access to your camera or Bluetooth, you'll need to go into your iOS or Android settings and allow access.
- Access settings by tapping the gear icon at the top left of the screen on iOS, or the three dots at the top right of the screen on Android.
- Turn off Encrypted Communication
-
Tap on "Provision Device"
- Tap "I don't have a QR code"
-
Enter "4MS" in the prefix box (if you're using Android, tap "Change" first).
-
Then tap the refresh icon or "Scan Again" and tap your 4MS device that appears.
-
Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password
-
After a while, the light on the Wi-Fi Expander will turn green
-
Go to MetaModule Settings > Info and check the Wi-Fi URL
-
Enter that URL in your browser (the URL starts with "http" not "https")

Now you're connected, transfer your patches from your browser to your MetaModule's USB, SD card or internal storage.
To change your Wifi network
While pressing the button, turn the power on, and when the button turns red, release it. After that, when the button turns blue, please repeat the "Connect to Wi-Fi network" setting above.
Using Wi-Fi Expander with VCV Rack
- Please install the 4ms plugin for VCV Rack, version 2.0.9 or later.
- Right-click on the MetaModule panel, select "Set Wi-Fi Expander address" from the menu, and enter the address you found in the MetaModule's "Settings" > "Info" (see above).
- Right-click on the MetaModule in the VCV Rack and select the destination volume from the "Wi-Fi sends to:" submenu. The internal drive has very limited capacity (2MB max) so we recommend storing patches on USB or card if possible.
-
When you place your cursor over the button, the main text box will display Wi-Fi settings, and when you click it, the top text box will say "Sent patch file" or "Failed to send patch."
