The Contour 1 is a slew limiter/function generator that takes the classic slew limiter circuit, which has been a staple in modular synthesizers due to its versatility, and applies modern design technology to improve both its performance and ease of use.
The basic function of the slew limiter is to slow down the rate of voltage change of the signal to IN. In Contour 1, two sliders and CV modulation can control the rising speed (Rise) and the falling speed (Fall) independently. The time range for Rise and Fall is 500 μs to 30 seconds. With this through function, when the gate is input to INASR envelope(100% sustain, attack time = Rise, release time = Fall).
Additionally, a +10V AD envelope can be activated by inputting a signal to TRIG. or by pressing the manual trigger button. When set to loop mode, Contour 1 continuously retriggers itself, causing the envelope to cycle. This allows it to function as an LFO as well.
Furthermore, the BEND knob and BEND CV input allow you to individually bend the slope shapes of the Rise and Fall from exponential to linear to logarithmic. In Contour 1, the Rise and Fall times remain nearly constant even when performing these operations.
The HOLD input slows down the slew core to near-stop while the gate signal is high ( TRACK&HOLD ). This function, which can also operate at audio rates, can be used for effects similar to oscillator sync or for pausing modulation.
Contour 1's TRIG., GATE, and HOLD inputs are uniquely designed to accurately handle extremely slow or weak bipolar signals. In addition to the main output and inverted output, the output stage is also equipped with a RISE / FALL output that outputs a + 5V gate while the slope is rising or falling.
