MUSICAL FEATURES

Afterneath is a reverb that uses the effect obtained by stacking many short delays. From reverbs that create the illusion of being in a cave to rhythmic and mysterious reverbs with short delays scattered, this effect overturns the conventional concept of reverb! Originally it was released by us as a compact pedal, but we added a new function so that it can be incorporated as part of a modular synth.

The After Nice module is equipped with Input / Output, Send and Return for feedback of Reflect, and 4 controls. Four of them can be controlled externally via CV. Each CV control has a knob that allows you to adjust the incoming CV voltage. After Nice is an analog circuit, but the effect sound is digital.

Control

1.Input:This is the gain setting of the input signal. It supports from instrument level signals (turn to the right) to modular level signals (turn to the left).

2.Dampen:Effect signal tone settings. Turn to the right for a darker tone, and turn to the left for a brighter tone.

3.Reflect: Sets the amount of reverb feedback. Each time you turn it to the right, you get an echo feeling that waves rush, and when you turn it to the left, you get a sound like a normal reverb. The higher the setting, the more the reverb will oscillate. If a Reflect Return patch is used and the signal is input, it will act as an attenuator.

4. Mix: Mix: Sets the mixing degree of the effect sound. By turning it to the right, the ratio of the original sound becomes lower. Although it is not possible to completely cut the original sound, it is possible to output only the effect sound by using Dry Kill.

5.Dry Kill: The original sound is completely removed from the output signal, and only the effect sound is output.

6.Drag: The biggest feature of After Nice is this Drag. After Nice is a reverb with a lot of short delays, and the delay part can be controlled independently. You can adjust the reverb bounce with Drag, turning it to the left will increase the mass of the delay and increase it to a rhythmic reverb, and turning it to the right will reduce the bounce of the reverb, but you will get a unique reverb feeling. Play a single note, chord, etc. once and turn Drag slowly. The reverb effect including the reverb oscillation, in which the pitch of the effect sound changes and the reverberation sound is warped, can be obtained.

7.Mode: Drag effect setting of effect mode. Also decide how to react to CV. There are 9 types of modes (see the description of Mode for details of each mode).

8.Diffuse:Setting how the reverb spreads. Turn to the left for a sharp and attacking texture, and turn to the right for an ambient texture where waves gently rush.

9.Length: Reverb length setting.

10.Mode LED: You can check which mode you have selected with Drag by the color difference.

11. Drag CV Inverting Attenuator: Sets the strength of the voltage applied to the CV input that controls the Drag. You can also invert the signal. When turned fully to the right, the + direction follows the input signal, and when turned fully to the left, the direction is reversed. When set to the 12 o'clock direction, CV becomes XNUMX.

12.Mode CV Inverting Attenuator: Sets the strength of the voltage input to the CV input that controls Mode. You can also invert the signal. When turned fully to the right, the + direction follows the input signal, and when turned fully to the left, the direction is reversed. When set to the 12 o'clock direction, CV becomes XNUMX.

13. Diffuse CV Inverting Attenuator: Sets the strength of the voltage applied to the CV input that controls the Diffuse. You can also invert the signal. When turned fully to the right, the + direction follows the input signal, and when turned fully to the left, the direction is reversed. When set to the 12 o'clock direction, CV becomes XNUMX.

14.Length CV Inverting Attenuator: Sets the strength of the voltage applied to the CV input that controls Length. You can also invert the signal. When turned fully to the right, the + direction follows the input signal, and when turned fully to the left, the direction is reversed. When set to the 12 o'clock direction, CV becomes XNUMX.

15. Drag CV Input: Drag can be controlled by using an external CV.

16.Mode CV Input: Mode can be controlled by using an external CV.

17. Diffuse CV Input: You can control the Diffuse by using an external CV.

18.Length CV Input: You can control the length using an external CV.

19.Audio Input: It accepts instrument-level to module-level input signals, and you can use the Input knob to set the input signal gain.

20.Reflect Send: Allows external devices to be added to the Reflect feedback path. Patching the output from here will not affect the internal feedback signal path.

21. Reflect Return: Connect the output from the external device connected via Send of Reflect here. If you don't need the Reflect feedback, you can use it as a signal input terminal. The Reflect knob then acts as an attenuator for the patched input signal. * Caution: When using Reflect with a distortion or resonant filter, be careful as the input signal may easily feed back. You can adjust this feedback with the Reflect knob, and plugging in a patch cable here will block the internal feedback signal path, but Reflect Send will still be enabled.

FASHION

1.Unquantized: The whole area is not quantized and changes smoothly.

2. Unquantized with Slew: It will not be quantized but will change smoothly. However, like turning the tape echo varispeed knob, it will change slightly so that it will catch up soon after the movement of the knob and CV.

3. Unquantized Volt / Octave: It will not be quantized but will change smoothly. It is scaled according to the 1V / Oct curve, so you can add melodic modulation or add pitch to the self-generated tone like a VCO.

4.Chromatic Scale: It is quantized to a chromatic scale at 1V / Oct.

5.Major Scale: Quantized to major scale at 1V / Oct.

6.Minor Scale: It is quantized to a minor scale at 1V / Oct.

7.Pentatonic Scale: Quantized to a pentatonic scale at 1V / Oct.

8. Octaves & Fifths: Omitted to 1 octave and XNUMX degrees at XNUMXV / Oct.

9. Octaves: Omitting to 1 octave at XNUMXV / Oct.

feedback

If Length and Reflect are set to a position higher than the 12 o'clock position, oscillation will occur in the circuit. By oscillating the After Nice module and operating the Drag parameter with CV, it can be used like an oscillator that can be operated with CV. In Modes 3 to 9, it is possible to track the oscillated feedback on the Volt / Octave scale. When using an external CV, the Drag knob will be an offset setting from the input signal. Due to the nature of the function in this part, the Drag parameter only supports voltages from 1.6V to 4.1V. When using a voltage from 0V to 1.6V, you can change the range that responds to CV by turning the Drag knob clockwise and setting it higher.

*Note:When connecting the bipolar CV output, it may be necessary to use an external device to raise the voltage and input it to the After Nice module.

The After Nice Module was not originally developed to produce a precise oscillating sound. The pitch of the oscillating sound basically follows the pitch of the input signal. When the signal is being fed back, the original sound changes to a sound with various harmonics depending on the settings of Length, Reflect and Dampen. By adjusting Length and Reflect well, just before uncontrollable feedback, You can get long sustain feedback.
