HOW TO USE

The LXR-02 is a full-featured digital drum generator with over 6 adjustable parameters per 30 voices.Create sounds ranging from classic analog emulations to crunchy digital chaos.

Interface

The explanation of each part is displayed by mouse over

Menu navigation

The upper row of the display shows the short name of each parameter, and the lower row shows the parameter value.Use the four knobs below the display to change their respective values.Use the encoders to select parameters in the menu.Selected parameters are displayed in upper case.

In the image above, the 'RES' parameter has been selected. If the current menu has more than four items, the upper right of the display indicates that there are multiple pages and the currently active page' > 'or' < ' is displayed. The menu page can be switched by pressing the MENU button again.Click an encoder to see its details page.

On the details page, the parameter is displayed with its full name and the value can be changed with the encoder.Encoders are useful for fine-tuning, as each knob has a coarse adjustment value.Click the encoder again to return to normal menu mode.

Memory management

SD card

SD cards are used as non-volatile storage. If you don't use a memory card, you can't save your work.

KITS

Kits store synthesis parameter data for all six voices. Each kit is stored as a binary file in '.SND' format in the 'Project6' folder on the SD card.

voice

The LXR-02 has 6 voices available. They are optimized for different kinds of drum sounds and you cannot change the voice type.3 drum voices, 1 subtractive clap/snare voice, 1 FM percussion voice and 6 hi-hat voices. Please refer to the user manual for synth structure of various voices.

Voice parameter menu

Each voice's synthesis parameters areEDITYou can change the mode.the synthesis engine'DRUM + SELECT'Grouped into 7 different sections that can be selected with a button.

Oscillator page [OSC]
You can access the parameters of the main oscillator and set its frequency and waveform. The setting items differ depending on the Voice type. Please refer to the user manual for details on the parameters for each type.

AMP Envelope Page [AEG]
Adjusts the amplitude envelope of each voice.Common parameters for each type are attack and decay, and slope curve shape.

Modulation page [MOD]
If the selected voice has a second envelope available, you can adjust its parameters. Also included in the Modulation page is Accent Velocity, which allows you to turn accents on or off for playback.

FM Page [FM]
You can set the frequency, waveform and amount of modulation of the FM oscillator.

Transient Generator Page [CLICK]
The transient generator parameters are the waveform, level and frequency of the short attack transients that are mixed into the voice output.

Filter page [FIL]
Contains all parameters of the filter, such as frequency, resonance, type and drive.

Mixer page [MIX]
This page provides access to volume, panning, routing, voice FX, sequencer track length, and more.

Menu

The LXR-02 offers different menus for different tasks such as voice editing, modulation, and FX routing. The main mode is accessed by six menu buttons.

EDIT mode

Voice Edit mode is used to adjust the sound parameters of each voice. Each parameter that a voice has has sevenSELECTIt is divided into multiple pages that you select with buttons. DRUM7 while holding down the buttonSELECTBy pressing the button, you can select the active voice indicated by the illuminated LED.Each voice type has its own set of parameters, but the overall page structure is the same for all voices. The parameters in the display can be adjusted with the four knobs below the screen.

To change the frequency of Voice 3's filter:

  • DRUM + SELECT button 3Select voice 3 with
  • SELECT button 6Display the filter page with
  • Adjust the 'frq' parameter with the left knob.
PERFORMANCE mode

This mode is designed for jamming. You can manually trigger each voice using the SELECT button, as well as access 'Morph' and 'Global Samplerate'.Note that voice editing is not possible in this mode.Performance mode presents three basic sets of parameters:

  • Adjust the ratio between original sound and morph target'Morph Amount [mrp]'
  • Select kit number for morph target'Morph Target [mtg]',
  • Adjust the overall sample rate reduction effect'Global sample rate [sr]'

MORPH
Use the morph feature to smoothly change between preset sounds. Any kit can be used as a morph target, and the Morph Amount value controls the ratio of original sound to target. As this parameter value increases, the current sound gradually changes to that of the selected morph target.

TIP: If morphing between any of the presets doesn't work for you, just tweak a pattern you like and save it to a new location to control all the tweaked parameters at once.

MODULATION menu

AGAINST THE MATRIX
Each voice features a 3-slot modulation matrix that lets you route CVs, accents and LFOs to any parameter in the synth engine. This mod matrix containsMODEbutton access. To select a voice when the mod matrix menu is active,DRUMWhile holding down the button, press one of the SELECT buttons.
There are three parameters available in this menu: modulation source selection, modulation amount, and modulation destination. The modulation is bipolar with respect to the current parameter value, so set the target parameter value to 3% for full range modulation. The mod matrix is'v/o'It has a special target denoted by , which allows you to scale the incoming CV and play that voice with a 1V/octave CV source. In this case the modulation amount should be set to 100% for accurate tracking. In 1V/Oct mode negative CV is invalid and the tracking width is 5 octaves.

LFO
6 LFOs are available. These are basically like audio oscillators, but at a lower frequency. To access the LFO menu,SHIFT + MODPress the button.with the menu active DRUMwhile pressing the buttonSELECT6 LFOs can be selected by pressing the button.
Unlike audio oscillators, the LFO cannot be heard directly. These are used to change parameter values over time. For example, if you want a voice's filter to open slowly and then close again, modulate the filter cutoff with a sine wave LFO. The parameters available in the LFO menu are LFO frequency and phase offset, LFO waveform and retrig settings.Frequency can only be set when sync is disabled, and phase offset sets the phase offset that will be reset when the LFO is retriggered. There are 8 types of LFO waveforms, including the fundamental, random, and exponential ramps.Retrigger allows retriggering the LFO from another sequencer track.

FX-mode

The LXR-02 has a digital effects processor available. Only one effect can be used at a time, and currently 1 types of FW are available: Drive, Rngmodulator, Compressor, and Delay. To use the FX processor, set the output routing on the mixer page to 'FX'.This will route the voices to the FX bus before outputting them. To access the FX menu'SHIFT + FX'Press the button.

DRIVE
Drive FX is a collection of various distortion algorithms. In contrast to the single-voice filter and mixer page drive parameters, this FX processes all signals in one distortion unit. This allows for interesting modulations between input signals.

Drive Types
The fourth parameter 'Type' selects the drive algorithm to use.

  • Tubs: Adds vacuum saturation.
  • Fld: Distortion using a wave folder.
  • Clp: An emulation of a Rodent-inspired hard-clip pedal.

The Clip processor's feedback parameter produces sound even in the absence of an input signal, which is normal behavior, much like the feedback sound produced by a microphone placed in front of a speaker. This behavior produces pleasing intermodulations when playing drum patterns, but produces a clean sound when there is no input. When using full feedback or using an external VCA and wanting to stop the sequence, it's a good idea to turn down the master volume.

RING MODULATOR
A ring modulator multiplies the input signal by a second oscillator signal.Available parameters are FX type, output routing, dry/wet mix, modulator waveform and frequency.

COMPRESSOR
A compressor is a dynamics processor that limits the dynamic range of a signal by lowering the level of loud sounds and raising the level of soft sounds. Please refer to the user manual for details of each parameter value.

DELAY
Classic, intuitive delay FX. The fourth parameter 'typ' allows you to choose between 'mono' and 'stereo ping pong' delay algorithms to use. You can also achieve flanger-like effects by setting the range parameter to extremely short delay times and using LFO modulation.
