MUSICAL FEATURES

Neuzeit Instrument Orbit is a powerful sound design tool that transforms all kinds of sounds into something new.A bit crusher that can be inverted in bit units, a harmonizer that can add up to 5 voices, a continuously variable -12dB / Oct multi-mode filter, an envelope generator that can also operate as an LFO, and an analog that controls Dry / Wet. It is equipped with an output mixer with a built-in VCA, an input mixer with an independent analog VCA, etc., and can be combined with an oscillator to configure a unique and complete synth voice. It also serves as a versatile tool for sound design and sound shaping.

HOW TO USE

Orbit's interfaces are organized in the order of signal paths and by related controls in an easy-to-understand graphic on the panel, and basically one operation knob is assigned to each function. The signal paths other than the CRSH stage, which is processed by the AD / DA converter, are completely analog, and all inputs are designed to be DC coupled.

The signal from the mixer in the input stage that has passed through the bass equalizer is AD-converted, input to the CRCH stage, processed, and returned to an analog signal by DA conversion. The sampling rate is controlled by Rate. The harmonics and subharmonic components generated in the HARM section, and the bass equalizer output signal that did not pass through the CRCH are mixed with this and input to the multimode analog filter. The output from the filter is the WET signal, the output of the input stage mixer is the DRY signal, and these are mixed to form the final output.

CRSH --bitcrusher

The input signal to Orbit passes through an input mixer with an independent VCA, a Bass equalizer that controls low frequencies with a single knob, and then flows to the bit crusher (CRSH) stage. The CRSH stage interprets the analog signal from the Bass EQ as an 8-bit or 12-bit binary representation, samples it digitally with a sampling frequency of 50Hz to 38kHz, and then outputs the downsampled signal as an analog signal. Orbit allows you to invert or mute individual bits of this binary representation. This allows for flexible wave shaping and sound design with harmonics added that maintain multiples of the base frequency.

The sampling frequency is determined by the RATE control and CV modulation. The RATE CV input has a dedicated attenu barter. When the SYNC function is enabled, the sampling frequency is proportional to the fixed basic frequency of the total input signal, and the RATE parameter follows the pitch of the input signal, so the effect on the timbre of the sample rate reduction depends on the frequency of the input signal. lose.

The four buttons on the MSB-LSB can be used to mute and invert individual digitally converted bits. The blue button indicates that it is a normal process, the red button indicates that the bit is inverted, and the off button always interprets it as zero and ignores it to mute the corresponding bit.On the sound side, it produces an effect similar to bit inversion, but not so dramatically.

The affected bits can be changed via Orbit's secondary feature layer, which can be accessed by pressing and holding the SYNC button. In the default setting, the four buttons in the CRCH determine the interpretation of bits 2 to 4, but in the secondary setting, the four buttons affect bits 1, 4, 2 + 4, and 2, 3, 4. I will. This setting gives you a bit crash sound that is less violent than the standard setting. This is because the MSB (Most Significant Bit) has the greatest effect on the sound, and the closer it is to the LSB (Least Significant Bit), the less it has.

CRSH uses the entire bit range only if the input level to the stage is high enough. In the secondary function menu, the LED above the RATE knob indicates whether the CRCH input level is Clipping. When the input level to the CRSH reaches or exceeds the maximum audio input level of the AD converter, the LED lights up, which means that the entire bit range of the CRSH is used.

HARM --Ocsillators

In the HARM section, up to 5 oscillators can be added based on the pitch information obtained by analyzing the input signal. With a separate level knob for each oscillator, you can use this section to create chords, noise, and more from simple audio waveforms. A central component of HARM is the measurement of the base frequency of an incoming audio signal. HARM contains 5 square wave oscillators, 3 of which, on the right● ~ ●●●Is a fixed offset one octave below, unison, and one octave above the detected frequency f0.Two more oscillators, on the left■ and ■■Is set to Δf + 0 and Δf + 12 semitones, and Δf is adjustable.

As an option, the two oscillators, ■ and ■■, can be synchronized to the rising zero intersection of the input signal. This behavior can be set via Orbit's secondary feature layer, which is accessed by pressing and holding the SYNC button.Similarly, from the secondary function layer, the two oscillators ●● and ●●● can be switched from the default square wave output to a noise output with different stochastic functions.●●● is for a sound like white noise●● is a more LoFi sound with a non-uniform probability distribution.

Orbit uses zero intersection to perform pitch analysis.

Secondary function layer

This is the operation method of Orbit's secondary function layer menu that can be accessed by pressing and holding the SYNC button. In this menu, the roles of the four CRSH buttons and ENV buttons change and are used for function settings. Also, the LED on the Rate knob will switch to show if the input to the CRCH is clipping. The settings that can be made with each button in the secondary function menu are as follows.

  • CRSH Bit1 (MSB): HARM section ■ and ■■ oscillator signal pitchf0 + Δf (blue),Zero cross-based f0 + Δf (red),Switch from Δf (no light)
  • CRSH Bit2: Switch between the two oscillators in the HARM section ●● and ●●● from the default square wave output (blue) and the noise output with different stochastic functions (red).
  • CRSH Bit3: CRSHボタンで行うビット操作をデフォルトの1/2/3/4(青)、2/3/4+5/6+7+8(赤)から切り替えます
  • CRSH Bit4 (LSB): Switches the CRSH bit depth from the default 12bit (blue) and 8bit (red).
  • ENV button: Toggles the envelope section from the default one-shot envelope (blue), LFO (red). For LFO operation, the trigger input isUse it as an LFO reset (AD) or as a gate input (AR) to bring up the LFO.
